I have two sons. My oldest is 20 and has high functioning Autism and Crohn's. My youngest is 16 and has more severe Autism. He has been complaining of abdominal pain near the midline above his belly button at night occasionally for years. I finally got the Gi to listen to me recently. Years ago, his dr ran a blood test from prometheus that showed he was likely to develop Crohn's, but the dr said it didn't mean anything. All of his blood work was normal except that he is anemic. His xrays and US were normal. She did an endoscopy/colonoscopy. His colonoscopy looked normal, but his biopsies had markers of inflammation. His endoscopy showed some irritation, but nothing significant. She did a pill cam. She saw some possible inflammation, but he didn't clean out well enough for her to see clearly. She ran the calprotectin test and it came back as 80, which isn't a clear answer either. We are doing the fecal occult blood test now. UGH!!! any advice suggestions or thoughts. Personally, I suspect he has some crohn's activity in his small intestines, but what to do? It is so hard b/c he can't communicate clearly what the problem is.
