I have an ileostomy that sometimes drains very watery at times, other times it is thick. How can I tell when I have diarrhea? If I do have that problem, what do I do about it?

Well, the big D presents the same in us with bags as 'normal' people. I still have it frequently. So you'll need to consider what you've eaten recently to cause it. Also, dehydration begets D, begets dehydration.

Bananas, rice, cheese (hard cheese) tends to slow you down a bit. Make sure to drink water and something like Powerade to rehydrate yourself!

Yep, what she ^^ said! Watery output almost always means I am dehydrated. Sure fire cure, for me anyway, lots of SmartWater and potato chips!!!

You will be able to tell because your frequency will increase and it will be watery ALL the time.

But the most obvious sign for me was how it changed colour - it became visibly green/yellow :ywow:

This apparently means it has gone straight through your system and has not been digested properly. You will know you are back to "normal" when it starts coming out brown again.
