Hi Everyone,
I work with a few people that actually have Crohns or colitis. After talking to them today about the joint issues I am having with my knees, they suggest trying to go gluten free, apparently this made the world of difference for them. My question is, does gluten free work for crohns in the small bowel? My crohns is located where the large and small bowel meet, the ladies that I was talking to have their disease in the large intestine.

As far as I am aware, and according to my Chiropractor. If you are allergic/sensitive to gluten it can affect you just about anywhere even your spine. She is a smart cookie I have every reason to believe her. Hope this helps.

Gluten free does stop joint inflammation from Crohns.
Nor does it stop Crohns
Ds has been gluten free on and off since he was a baby
He currently has been gluten and dairy for well over a year
And Still has joint issues

He avoids these only because it causes GI issues (not Crohns )

Crohns exclusively thread

There is the Crohns exclusive diet similar to ibd aid diet
None of them stopped Ds arthritis
Even with humira

Lady Organic,

I am vegetarian and eat as much organics as possible. I am sorry to hear that you have pain in the rear end. I also have this as I was prescribed Gabapentin for nerve pain due to damage caused during surgeries that keeps me awake and in pain at night. It blocked me up and I crapped a brick back in June. Still hasn't gone away completely. It has gotten a fair bit better though. I hope you improve and your pain goes away soon. We should get to know each other as it seems you are an organic eater as well.

Wishing you all the best,

cmack

Thanks cmack:)
so far diet or organic foods have not proved to be effective for me unfortunately. I eat organic not only for me and my future health, but for ethical reasons as well. Diets similar to IBD aid can help for some people I know, including 2 IBD and one with IBD arthritis. best wishes to you too :)

Hey Lady Organic,

I am sorry to hear it hasn't helped you much. It took me quite a few months to see an improvement. I also started drinking only filtered (Brita)water minimum 2l a day. I also supplement with vit D3 1000IU and B12 1200mcg time release and vegetarian Omega 3's(soft gels) as directed. I also get regular exercise whether it be yard work or lifting weights I just go until I feel my body has had enough. I feel better now than for a long, long time. I still have a thing for a beer or two or a little Merlot. Other than that I'm living clean. Quit smoking too. Been about a year now.

That is only the tip of the iceberg but I wanted to tell you a little about myself. :ysmile:

Have a good one,

cmack

im glad you are having improvement with lifestyle change. the only improvement i could say i had was to keep in remission for over a year with nutritherapy (ibd-aid) on a lower dose of purinethol 50mg which failed really fast back in 2004. I cant swear my last year remission on 50mg only was because of the diet, it was maybe a coincidence, there's no way to know. However, when I was forced to lower purinethol again last year to 25mg after toxicity issues, I relapsed unfortunately.

Thank you for all the advice. I will definitely have a close look at food. Knees and joints were a bit better today.

I have let my diet go recently and have noticed a huge difference in joint pain need to get back to a good diet

Well today m officially in agony cause diet has been horrible too much sugar mow totally screwed

I think sometimes if people smoke too much Herbs, Cough! The food choices become random munchies. Usually not the best stuff. Maybe you should eat something healthy then medicate? Just a thought.

Night shades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant) can cause joint pain too. I have to stay away from potatoes and peppers and limit my tomatoes. Horrible joint pain in my shoulders if I eat potatoes. Also, lots of gluten free products contain potato flour too. Might be worth noting how you feel the next day after you eat these things. Take care!

I was doing paleo for a while no joint issues digestive issues were ok but was taking mmj oil at night now in hindsight i think i was taking too much of the stuff cause I liked how numb it made my body and then the munchies would hit during the night and my dad likes his biscuits and coke and i was sneaking it during my munchies but if i was good the paleo worked great then my mum got ill and i got depressed and diet went totally to crap and all the pain returned and my ankylosing spondylitis flared as well

But i noticed a big difference with diet
