Hello. What do you think of this:
I had a recent blood test that reveled overly high B12 levels- odd, as usually B12 that is not used by the body is excreted. Many abstracts that I read on this seemed to consider this finding an anomaly, and offered no explanation other than someone taking supplements- which doesn't equate with the excess excreted idea though. Some long searching and I found some abstracts (clinical biochemistry) on the signifigance of elevated cobalamin ( B12) levels in blood. Both abstracts indicate that cobalamin is produced by colonic microflora ( which can point to a severe overgrowth of the 'bad' gut bacteria if blood levels are high). These same abstracts indicated that this finding can sometimes occur during a phase of active IBD.
Recently, I was given sulphasalazine, to which I had a severe adverse reaction that included a significant worsening of my IBD. Again, lots of reading, and I came across an abstract that concluded that 'altered microflora' and a 'microflora imbalance' could possibly result from sulphasalazine.
This has me wondering about the SCD diet and it's theories about bacteria overgrowth etc. AND wondering if all IBD is different stages of a progressive inflammatory process in the gut.
I would be interested to know what you think about these things. I've started the SCD diet, and plan to be totally vigilant on it, in the hopes that perhaps, it may work. Has anyone here ever tried this diet ( not cheating on it, but vigilantly)? If so, what was your experience?
most sincerely,
Mia
