difficulty in absorbing?

Has anyone had the issue with not absorbing enough water? I only have small intestine left and the kidney doctor is threating to put a port in my chest since I am not absorbing properly. I guess my stage 2 kidney disease jumped up to four. Scared to death!

I haven't had any surgery so I still have all of my intestines, and my kidneys are fine, so our situations aren't very comparable. However, if it's of any help, I've had a few bad flares where I was drinking water and pedialyte/gatorade, but got really dehydrated anyway. It felt like, I was drinking and peeing just fine, but the water didn't seem to be absorbing into my system, like it was just going right through me without giving me any benefit. I ended up on IV fluids each time that happened. I also end up on IV fluids whenever I do prep. It seems like inflamed intestines are just not so good at absorbing fluids or something like that. If you think you're dehydrated or not absorbing enough water, IV fluids are a big help. Good luck, I hope your kidneys are okay and I hope you don't have to get a port.

I haven't had any surgeries either. I just drink fluids all day. The only time I don't is in my sleep. I know the feeling of being dry, just work harder to get yourself on a program where you've got something to drink. I've noticed that when I'm shopping in a store that has juices and or others to drink, I will open something and drink it, I also pay for the empty if I drink it all.
