I'm still young, only 19 but I have a full time job right now. Just looking for some information on disability...who has it because of Crohn's and will I be accepted if I apply? I barely make it to work anymore and theres so many doctors visits. My boss and co-workers don't understand that I'm in unusual amounts of pain but if anyone has any info, I'd like to hear.

be prepared for the long haul. it varies in each state. I am in NY state. They usually deny you first time around. very rare if they approve you the first time. Get a lawyer well versed in disability for the 2nd time when you go before the law judge. Have them do the leg work to file the necessary paperwork and such. Be sure to copy everything Social security sends you after you fill out the forms. There will be many forms to fill out but worth it months down the road as they will try to trick you regarding what you can and can't do. Then all you have to do is recopy from the 1st set of paperwork they sent you. That is what I did as nothing changed.

What helped is that I had a stroke 6 years ago due to a 12 inch clot on my brain & it took over a year for me to recover. In their puny little mind I was recovered in 6 months which was total crap. I took their denial form to my attorney and was like I can't drive or do anything by myself and they say I'm cured. Can you please help me. He was awesome. It took 2 years but well worth it as I was approved on the spot when I stood before the judge. He was like why weren't you approved the 1st time around? This is a waste of my time and yours. It's very obvious due to your health issues that you can NOT work.

Have you talked to other members of the local CCFA chapter where you live to see how it worked out for them. Definitely attend a meeting because there you'll be able to find out which lawyers are the best for CD pts., get tips on what to put on the forms, meet others who are going through the same thing like you etc. go to ccfa.org to locate a chapter near you. That is what got me through the waiting period and where I got support when I had troubles with my caseworker during the 1st filing.

Best of luck to you Alexis. Gutless Wonderwoman

It is very hard to get approved for SSI disability the first time if you are under age 50. You will probably need to appeal the denial in order to obtain SSI. My sister in law had stage 4 ovarian cancer and got denied at first. She wasn't approved until after she died. But the good news is that usually, when you are denied at first and then later approved, you might get back payments going back to the date of filing.

Where you from buddy there is alot of lawyers out there and you will need one to get you disability approved there is also alot of discrimition that comes with this disease so good luck im 41 and still trying to get my disibility.

I have been on it since I am 18. I live in Washington and at first I was denied but we resubmitted and I got approved. I get about 674 a month and am far from able to work. Good Luck. There are lawyers who help with that kinda stuff in specific if worst comes to worst.

I live in texas and i got ssi on my second try. I did not need a lawyer. All the info you could ever want is of there waiting for you to find it. For real I promise you Google has all the answers. Sometimes you have to word your search info different but you will find all the stuff you need to know. Good luck
