Do I Have Crohn's? Linked to Vitamin D Deficiency?

I am a 22 year old female of normal weight. I have had painful intestinal problems for 9 years now. I have terrible diarrhea on a daily basis and a constant abdominal ache at all times of my life. Most of my lab results and my colonoscopy from years ago came back normal, as well as a CT scan. I was written off as having IBS. However, years later, I continue to suffer on a daily basis. Changes in my diets and medications have had little to no effect. In order to control the diarrhea, I literally chug 2-3 bottles of Immodium in one day. This is expensive and getting to be exasperating.
I recently got back lab test results and finally found something-- that I have a severe Vitamin D deficiency, despite having spent a summer constantly out in the sun. My doctor thought little of it and told me to begin supplements, which have, like everything else, given me more diarrhea. I also have high triglycerides and slightly high cholesterol, despite being of normal weight for my height. I have read that Crohn's is connected with severe lack of Vitamin D absorption. All of the symptoms seem to exactly match me. Is it possible that my one colonoscopy could have missed diagnosing this because sometimes the inflammation goes away with Crohn's and is undetectable? I am fairly certain I have the condition and have been misdiagnosed. IBS does not seem plausible with the kind of pain I am in at all times. Does this sound familiar to anyone else, and how were you all diagnosed with the disease? Thank you for your help.

Its possible. You wont know for sure unless a test comes up with positive results.
I wouldn't lead myself in believing I had something if I've been getting professional help with it. But I would try to find ways to help treat what I think it may be, and IBD is still a mystery.

My Ulcerative Colitis came out of nowhere during winter of '08 - '09. Actually, now that I think of it, I think it had something to do with the cold weather. Turn out I've been anemic since I was small. I remember freezing a lot during that winter.

Anyway Everything went away twice, both for two months (remission) and came back with bloody diarrhea and some pain once in awhile. With ulcerative colitis, its usually blood and mucus. Had it for the most, 7 months every single day.

If you go into the 'Your Story' forum (first one) you can read about people stories.

I just take friendly bacteria to keep things under control and ginger for the pain but I ran out of the aged bacteria I usually take and right now going through it until it arrives tomorrow or saturday hopefully.
My bro took forever to order the damn thing.....:)

Hi Marie, welcome to the forum. A colonoscopy certainly can miss finding the cause of your illness. I've had many tests, including colonoscopy, endoscopy, CT scan, pill cam, etc. and I'm still undiagnosed myself. So my advice is to keep looking for answers. Whether that means more tests, or getting a second opinion from a new doctor (are you seeing a gastroenterologist?). Good luck, and please do share your story in the My Story section of the forum so that everyone can get to know you.

Hi Marie
and welcome

Firstly, you're doing yourself no favours chugging all that Imodium! This is for the short term only, and if you do have Crohn's, this med shouldn't be used!
Secondly, you need to see a doctor or a specialist, then mention the Imodium!
It is possible that the last scope missed something so ask for a referral back to gastro and get some more tests, small bowel follow through, sigmoidoscopy, or endoscopy.
Good luck and keep insisting!
lotsa luv
