Hey guys, I was just wondering if any of you that are currently taking Humira are on any other medication on top of Humira. The only reason I ask is because Humira seems like it has started slowing down with controlling my crohn's symptoms. It's starting to act like when I was on Remicade, it just dwindled down till it didn't work anymore.

What medication, if any, are you guys on, on top of Humira. I want to ask my GI about it.

Yes Ethan. I take methotrexate injections because of my past rejection of remicade. Us MTX helps increase humira's potency by 30%. I am trying to get off the roids after 6 months being on it. Along with 500 mg of pentasa for colon cancer prevention, not sure on that though.

My son was taking 100mg of azathioprine along with Humira, we only discontinued it after his surgery to see if the Humira was enough but if he needs to will go back on it first sign of a flare.

Hey Ethan,
I'm in a similar situation, I've been on humira nearly 6 months. It got me off steroids, but things are stil not great, so the GI wants to add 100mg Aza. I hope this combi works, Aza did nothing for me on its own. GI said if this doesnt work, next step is humira weekly.

Yeah man, Aza stops your body from building a tolerance to it, if that doesn't suffice, he'll probably push you to weekly injections which seem to be becoming the norm with regards to IBD.

supposedly taking aza onto of the humira makes it more effective, it also reduces the chances of your body becoming resistant to the humira as it dampens down your immune system. unfortunately for me I'm intolerant to aza so I'm just on the humira only. :)

I am on off-label weekly injections of Humira. It was the first move after I built up a tolerance to the drug and it lost its efficacy. I've been on Entocort and Prednisone at various times with my Humira.

I just started taking humira today.. But also iam taking with is Asacol, imuran, pred, ompez and iron plus a multi vitamin... Dr said to keep taking other meds tll the humira kicks in.. Well see how it goes....

Let me know if you get tired on humira.

So far I haven't felt tired. My legs fell numb from the injections. I'll keep yu posted if it does and any side effects..

So just got back from my GI appointment and he changed up a few things.

First, he put my on Azathioprine once a day. And also, he wants me to inject Humira every week instead of every other week.

He told me to do this for 6 weeks and then come back for another meeting to see if anything changed.

It's one 50mg tablet everyday. Do you have any experience with aza? (Is aza it's slang term? ha)

Yes, I have been taking it for 8 months. I take a while to start working..One thing I did notice was when I first started taking I would itch.. But, it went a way after a while. I take 150 mg. That's three pills a day . I take them at once .. I take them at night..

Oh, also it weaken yr immune system . When I first started taking it I got strep throat.. After that nothing... So good luck with it hope it works well for yu..

hey EthanPSU

How are you doing? How are the meds doing?

Waiting to start Humira at the end of Feb.

The "Humira" people did a great job getting me signed up for their programs. I just hope they are as easy as they made it sound!

Thanks again for the info

lauren

I'm doing better. I was upped to 150mg of aza and Humira every week and it seems to be helping, my issues are slowly going away as far as I can tell. After a month of Humira every week I have another meeting with my GI to see how I am doing and to see if we should change anything up.
