Although I have had issues with my sciatic nerves in the past, I never related them to my having Crohn's disease. Now you have me wondering..... lol

Crohn's is definitely related to back pain and arthritis in some people. I had severe back pain twice in my life and both times I got a Crohn's flare after. My first flare I mistook for being on too much ibuprofen. I thought it was from ibuprofen so i did not get diagnosed for Crohn's. Second time the flare didn't go away by itself so I went to gastro and he diagnosed me with a severe Crohn's diagnoses. Second time I got diagnosed too late, again thinking it was ibuprofen that caused my stomach issues. It started to affect my knees and ankles as well after my back. I do not get almost any joint pain or severe back pains without a Crohn's flare. Everyone is different though. I read that some people get back pain a few years before they are diagnosed. It can actually precede flares. In my case I get really bad pains then colon and stomach Crohn's flare kicks in 1-2 months later. I barely even had diahrrea but severe stomach pain and appetite loss. Everyone again is different and symptoms are tricky.

Arthritic pain is common with crohns disease. I had severe low back pain and sciatica many years before I was diagnosed with Crohns. After a bowel resection late last year which removed the damaged and inflamed areas...I have no back pain or sciatica since. Everyone is different though. Good luck.

I have had a bad back on and off for years, in the 2 years before my Crohns really kicked in I had sciatica really bad. I eventually started doing Pilates for the lower back and that seemed to take care of it. Some months later the crohns started so I will never truly know if they were connected or if I kicked it off by taking ibuprofen (I suspect it is a bit of both ).

I used to get sciatica, though I think my immobility when I was in flare had a lot to do with it... I was always told to just do exercises to keep my core strengthened to help prevent it, since we can't really take things like Naproxen.

My Crohns flared up pretty bad in 2013. the first flare up since 1998.Just when things started going bad i had sciatica for the first time as well. I then took anti-inflammatory pills not realising they make crohns worse - oops. Very quick onset of crohns pains around that period. Have had sciatica recurrences a few times since.

Interesting to know if they are related or not.

Does anyone know if 6MP will also help with the back pain without Humira or any other drug? Because I'm on prednisone and I don't have back pain but that's because its an anti-inflammatory. My CRP and SED is really low and in good shape.

But when I taper of prednisone my Dr. wants me on 6MP or Biologics. I was going to make my decision based on if 6MP helps with lower back pain.

I know Humira is for arthritis as well. Is there something in Humira that is specific to arthritis because I know its an anti-TNF. Does lowering WBC which 6MP does have the same effect on arthritis or is it the anti-TNF properties that make it effective for arthritis?

What I am really trying to figure out is the back pain from WBC and CRP being high or some other reason?

Do you mind sharing if the bowel resection was in the colon or not and how much was damaged % of your colon for you to have a resection.
