I applied for USPS a few months ago and have recently been invited to do a job interview for a city carrier coming next week. I do have Crohns and I've been on medication (Imuran 150mg) for a few months now. If I'm hired, the hours are between 8-30 hours a week (A non career position).

I was wondering if anyone with the same condition work or have worked for the United States Post Office. I just want to know your experience and thoughts.

I'm also open to discussion with anyone who would have advice on the matter.

Thank you!

We have experience (we have a person with Crohn's in the family and a different person who works post office - so I am extrapolating a bit) albeit in a different country with the post office. Would you be doing a foot walk or would you be using a delivery vehicle? Big difference there on you energy output.

Are you physically fit right now? It can be very physical work. Particularly around the Christmas season.

How are your symptoms? Not to be blunt, but you are out of the office delivering (whether in a vehicle or on foot) and you won't have immediate access to a washroom. This is a problem for carriers who DON'T have IBD! Think using business washrooms along the route or the bushes (well, not for number 2). Would you be comfortable figuring out your options?

Otherwise the fresh air and possible flexibility of the schedule sounds good. Although I see you are in AZ. Would being in and out of the heat bother you?

I work for the post office. I am a PTF city carrier with Ulcerative Colitis. when I first started getting sick, I had no clue what was wrong with me. the urgency was there, but luckily I never had an accident. it wasn't easy. With you being new, they will be watching you closely, they will be making sure you make your route times. it will be tough if you are not feeling well. your treatment will all depend on your post master, and how tough they are on the employees. if you are hired in a large post office, find out who your union reps are. they can help you. if its a small post office, talk to the post master. hopefully they will be understanding. but if your not flaring right now, I would not bring it up quite yet. wait until you've proven that you can do the job. Good luck.
