I've been taking entocort for 2 months now for my ilieitis, I was feeling good until about a week ago where I experienced the same sharp pain that I had near the ilieum area although this time it is on my left side (i'm guessing the colon). It hasn't gone away since , seems like the pain in my ilieum is almost gone but this pain on my left side is worst. I've had ilieitis for a year now and have never experienced pain whatsoever on the left side. How can this happen if i'm taking Entocort? Do these meds only help the ilieum or do they help any area of the intestine and colon? Also, can chron's spread into a more severe type even when taking steroid medication like Entocort?

crohns can be found in any part of the diegestiv stytem. so yes it can spread. sharon xx

It usually attacks the colon, ileum, but can go anywhere from your anus up until your mouth, as it can attack the whole digestive pipe.

It's perfectly reasonable for it to spread. It usually does. That's why many people end up having surgery after surgery. They get it cut out and it pops up elsewhere. Meanwhile they're taking plenty of meds including strong ones like remicade.

Not that this is definately what's going on for you but what happened to me was that my pain was usually in the lower right quadrant (ileum territory) and then I went on prednisone and that pain went away. I rarely have it anymore. But, just as that was going away I started to notice pain on my left side. After a scope, pill cam, and watching the symptoms it was decided that what I had left over after the prednisone was IBS. A text book case in fact. The pain even happened usually as food left my stomach after 30 minutes after eating. We started on IBS treatment and that pain is now under control too. All I have left is my joint pain and facial dermititis. Each time we knock something out it leaves something else standing all alone in the open providing an easy target.

As for entocort I beleive it only affects the large intestine/ileum. What could be happening is that you've treated the problem spot in the large intestine/ileum but there's nothing treating the disease in your small intestine and that is what you're feeling.

I see, but can it spread even at time where someone is taking medication for it?

Yes, sometimes people don't respond to medications or the disease is too powerful. It's impossible to know, CD I find is an experiment, you try different things to see what works best for you at any given time.

I had surgery... had the bad part cut out.. about 1 1/2 feet of colon.. within three months it was back and had spread to the remaining 4 1/2 feet.. so, the answer is definitely yes.. And, despite various meds, crohnies know all too well that it does spread.. which is why folks change meds, or wind up needing various operations.

Well I guess i'll see what my doctor has to say about this next week when I see him. My ileum was the only thing that was bothering me , now that I've been taking Entocort for the last 2 months its 80% better. Although, all of a sudden I'm getting the same type of pain on my left side abdomen , the exact same pain I had with my ileum. Heh, one problem almost gone and another reappearing....This never ends.. :depressed:
