I've been having a lot of ongoing acid indigestion/inflamed sensation in my stomach over the last few weeks and I'm not sure what is the trigger. I have been following a low residue diet and i'm not sure if there are any foods within my already limited diet that are contributing. I have noticed that drinking an ensure seems to help settle the indigestion...I'm wondering what's in the ensure that is helping this? I currently take asacol and aciphex and have been in close communication with my gastro since my crohn's started aggravating me about 6 weeks ago.

Are you taking steroids...these can cause indigestion. If you have a bit of gastritis then eating or drinking can ease the symptoms..though you would have expected the aciphex to have settled that down..though it can take 2-3 weeks to effective sometimes. The worst foods to aggravate gastritis are acidic ( fruit juices) or spicy though I guess you are avoiding these anyway.
Having small regular meals is best, to avoid an empty stomach and give the acid something to work on other than your stomach lining...assuming that is the cause!!

If you drink ensure and then eat less solid food I think is the opposite effect.
The stomach releases acids to digest the food, if you replace the solid food for liquid it is more likely you will feel more acidity.

In my opinion the best deal for acidity is Omeprazole, you don´t need prescription to buy it.

Omeprazole and aciphex are both PPi's (Proton pump inhibitors) so will have very similar effects. Some may find one better than the other but that is very person dependant.
