I know the stuff is really bad, but I drink it sometimes at work because the carbonation feels so good. At home I bought coca-cola hecho en mexico (no HFCS, only pure cane sugar), from costco. It doesn't seem to upset my stomach. Has anyone else had this experience?

Thanks,
Dave

If I could get off of it long enough to determine its effects, I might have an answer for you.

I'm not sure about corn syrup, but almost every other corn product I have cut out of my diet (except for that one day out of the month that I just need cheese enchiladas).

I try to stay away from all carbonated drinks because they cause me gas which cause my adhesions to hurt. Although I do drink NESTEA which has corn syrup, and doesn't seem to bother me.

All of the processed junk was harmful to me while I was really sick. I went to basically an organic diet and stopped eating processed food and felt way better than I had previously with the same doseage of pred and 6MP. I do think that it could make a difference, but i dont know how much because everyone is different. I went on Remicade(for 1 infusion before I had a reaction and stopped) and now am on Humira. I eat that stuff now and dont notice any problems. Maybe it just varies from person to person like almost every food does with Crohns.

I was having a lot of sharp pains and diarrhea after meals even thought my Specialist believed the crohns was under control. He eventually sent me for breathe tests and I found I had a fructose intolerance. HFCS is an obvious no no for me causing similar health issues as the crohns.

If you live in America and you haven't seen it, I recommend watching a movie called King Korn. It is a doco about corn products in America and how prevalent it is in the diet, not just labelled on foods as HFCS, but corn by-products being feed to animals, etc...

I don't think it bothers my Crohn's, at least not in an obvious manner. I'm pretty symptom-free as long as I say away from any of a few foods like lettuce, veggies, etc.

If you like the carbonation effect have you considered lime with club soda or sparkling water? I love it.

Sugar bothers me. Not sure about HFCS. I only assume sugar b/c whenever I eat ice cream I have problems. I can eat cheese and milk with no problems, so that's why I think it must be the sugar. Also, I can eat chocolate but if I eat hard candy problems - again, I'm assuming sugar.

I have positively identified HFCS as causing flares. Since cutting it out of my diet as much as possible I have been mostly symptom free. Twice in the last several years I've had a regular soda instead of diet and both times I was met with a flare up.
