Hello every one..

I was diagnosed with crohn last year...
I dont take any type of medication since 6 months,
Because i dont feel any pain or anything
My only problem and symptoms with crohn is
1-diarrhea ( going to bath twice a day or one, nothing certical)
2-losing weight

I look very thin lately and i want to gain my weight back...
Does taking anti diarrhea pills help me gain weight faster?
Its seems my body is not taking or consuming the food i eat as i see when going to the bathroom...

Or any other way to gain my weight back...
I was 60kg, im now 55-56 and look very thin...

Thanks

Hello
Even though you seem to be feeling better, it is advisable to remain on some type of medication for maintenance. Crohn's can do a lot of damage silently, causing a lot of damage to your guts, potentially permanent. By remaining on meds you lessen the chance of permanent damage being done and are more likey to stay in remission and keep inflammation at bay. Something to consider.
Also, there are better ways to try and gain weight. Try eating foods with higher caloric content or high in unsaturated fat. Avocados are high in unsaturated fat and are generallya safe food for Crohnies (may not be the case for you, we are all different). Have you had any blood work done recently? If you can figure out what vitamins you are lacking you can try to correct that problem that can lead to better absorption of foods . Some people would recommend Boost supplement drink, I would not however because it contains carageenan and that aides in disease progression.
Since you are feeling better can you tolerate mild exercise such as long walks? Building muscle will go a long way not only in weight gain but also in your general health and well being.

I remember asking my GI about anti diarrhea pills. What she told me is that it could lead to more inflammation...so usually when I have diarrhea, i'm gonna have to try and find foods that would solidify it more instead of the pill. :/

Which anti-diarrhoea pills are you talking about?

I'm pretty sure that Imodium (loperamide) and Lomotil will not help with weight gain. I think they just result in more water being absorbed from the stool, they don't affect the nutritional aspect of digestion.

In theory if you slow down transit and have less diarrhea you will absorb more of your food and gain weight. I wouldn't solely rely on this though and as others have said you need to address the root cause and supplement effectively.

I dont think anti-diarrhea pills will help you gain weight. I suggest multivitamins.

p.s. be thankful for only using the bathroom 1-2 times a day, as other like myself go 10-20 times

Anti D pills won't make you gain weight. If your suffering from a crohns flare its probably caused by the malabsorption associated with. You need to concentrate on high cal foods that agree with your crohns. Add to it some ensures or similar and some multi vits. Don't expect miracles as it takes no time to lose the weight and what seems like ages to put it back on!
