Does this sound like a flare up or just me?

Hi,

I'm currently still in Limbo. Doc, who had previously diagnosed UC, now says Crohn's. Although colonscopy in Dec showed inflammation, biopsies have not confirmed this. I'm still waiting to next Doc appointment.

I've had a bit of a bad weekend in the sense that I had a few drinks and ate a take away too. I haven't had D but just been to toilet and now I am passing bloody mucus again along with a very sore and swollen area just by sphincter muscle. I've also had a very swollen stomach but this has been going on for a few months now. I do get the bloody mucus on occassion.

Does this sound like a flare or have I just been stupid and caused it by excess at the weekend? I'm currently on Asacol x 6 a day and have ointment for a fissure. I wondered whether it was just the fissure?

Thanks,
Pats

Hi Pats, sorry to hear you are still in limbo. I'm there myself so I feel for you!

As for your symptoms, it could be a flare or it could be that the "bad" food you ate is upsetting you. Personally, when I flare, I can tell because I have symptoms like severe joint & back pain, night sweats, and chills - I usually don't get those symptoms outside of a flare. I have d, nausea, mucus sometimes when I'm not flaring (like when I eat something that doesn't agree with me), so those symptoms alone don't necessarily mean a flare - to me. As you know we're all different in terms of symptoms, flare severity & length, etc, so you might just have to go with your best judgment on this.

With regard to fissures - I've dealt with a fissure in the past and I've never had blood in the toilet from it, only a little blood on the TP.

I hope you're able to see your doctor quickly and get some solid answers. Good luck!

Thanks.

It's settled a bit but I spoke to nurse who doubled my asacol to 12a day. She also said she would rush through an appointment too but no sign yet. I just know myself well enough yet to know what causes the bleeding and I don't want to say it is a flare up when I don't even know if I have CD! I'm keeping a food diary and I'm definitely off the drink for a while too! Hope you get some answers soon.
