Does your GI clinic treat pain?

Will your GI specialist/clinic treat your pain?

I'm always told to take Tylenol which I hate to do. Im already on 175mg Azathioprine so I feel like my poor liver has enough to process. If Im in a lot of pain I will give in. Before Crohn's I never took anything. I was always one of those people that prefered to ride it out. However Crohn's pain is a whole different ball game.

You sure are lucky. I was given Oxy for two days after surgery and then sent home with Tylenol for pain. Well, after taking Oxycodone, Tylenol just wasn't cutting it. Next time I see my Dr. I will ask about Oxy for pain. Isn't it highly addictive though?

Yes, but if you take it ONLY as directed this should not be a problem.

Yes, my GI treats my pain. If she didn't, I would find one that does. I think since my GI understands Crohn's, they also understand the different types of pain associated with the disease.

It can be addictive, so I'm very careful with it. He gave me 60 5mg last month. I haven't even opened the bottle yet. I'm still using ones from my gallbladder surgery last summer. I take 1/2 of one a day, if I can't control the pain with a heating pad. It's just enough to knock the edge off.

My GI gave me a script of 60 5mg oxycodone, but has said if I need more, I will be sent to a pain management specialists. I will see him on Wed. and we will be discussing this option!

The GI, GP and hospital have always written scripts, for pain meds, to my kids when needed for severe pain. It has always been Endone 5mg.

I think most doctors would if you asked them? I personally avoid it. Mine does try to give me something, couldn't tell you the name of it, I just say no. How am I supposed to know if I feel any better if I can't feel anything.

No, nothing, not even when I was having episodes every 60-90 mins of being on the floor screaming in pain.

I'm terrified of the next time this happens!

(And plan to visit Emerg. Oh, to be armed with knowledge. I was told Emerg is only for life-threatening situations...nope, screaming in pain is allowed, too.)

I don't know of any of the GI docs in our area that will treat pain. They want you to go to pain management which helps but also puts a mark on you
