Hi, guys.

My name's Andy. I got diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2008 and spent two horrid years in and out of hospital. I had two emergency operations to basically keep me alive, and spent a year with a temporary Ileostomy.

After spending quite a bit of time dedicated to talking to patients in similar positions to myself online, as well as raising awareness of the disease via my writing, I've finally decided to put together a chapbook of poetry. This tells of my short journey coming to terms with an unheard of illness, and often venting my frustrations in a semi-humorous manner (the full synopsis can be read below).

Because I'm still passionate about raising awareness, I have decided not to charge people for reading this book, despite my best efforts putting it together. You can download it COMPLETELY FREE via the link to my website: http://www.andycarrington.co.uk/dearcrohns

If you like the book after you've read it, you can make a donation of whatever amount you wish via the above link, also.

Since this is all about awareness, I'd be very grateful if you could pass the book on via email, link as many people as you can, or even write a short review if you have time (http://www.andycarrington.co.uk/dearcrohns). As a struggling writer as well as a Crohn's patient, I need all the help I can get :)

By being open and honest about our illnesses (whatever they may be) my hope is that we learn from each other and become stronger as individuals.

I hope everyone enjoys the book. Do let me know.

Thanks for listening

-- Andy.

Dear Crohn's is a chapbook of poetry concerned with one man's experiences living with Crohn’s disease, a rare inflammatory condition of the bowels that is on the rise within the United Kingdom today.

With no known cause or cure, the writer tells of his experiences as a patient in and out of hospital, dealing with a variety of symptoms, temporary cures and NHS personnel, often venting his frustrations in a semi-humorous manner. (Contains 7 poems.)

Hey I think you're poetry is awesome. I studied Literature for my undergrad and I've really enjoyed reading your writing. Keep it up :)

Thank you, Hannah, for checking it out. Greatly appreciated. I did Creative Writing & English Lit at Uni. Did you enjoy your course?

Feel free to pass the book onto as many people as you like :)

Yeah I loved it, I studied at UEA in Norwich, I wish I'd have done a creative writing module now but I didn't take the opportunity. Do you write for a living?

The creative writing was the best part by far, I think.

Well, I'm trying. Still in the process of building my reputation. I couldn't live just on the (tiny) income, so I balance it with a part-time job.

Keep going, you'll get there :) if it brings you satisfaction, it's totally worth it. I have writen things in the past I just never really have the waves of inspiration, I think it takes a very creative mind.

Have you ever written a haiku or a short poem? I want to write a brief submission to the group at work who decide which charity we fundraise for on dress down day every month. (See 'Fundraising - need help' in the general IBD discussion forum). I can write some prose but I wondered if people might submit some quotes about crohn's and how it has effected them, or how the NACC has helped them, or indeed, poems :) which could be used to make the submission punchier.

I'd totally understand if you wanted to keep your crohn's poetry private and personal but if you've ever written something short but sweet about crohn's I'd love to use it in the submission to help raise money for NACC :)

Attempted Haiku a few times, but it's not really my style, I don't think. I could have another go, though, I suppose. I'll try and get back to you :)
