So I have a duodenal ulcer and have been prilosec for a month now I thought it was helping a lot but my gi dr changed me to daxliant? What is this and why would he do that I'm afraid it's not gonna help me like I thought prilosec has been? Does anyone have a similar experience to this and why would he make that change is daxliant better for stomach ulcers?

It seems both are PPIs. Here is some info on PPIs:

Proton pump inhibitors are very similar in action and there is no evidence that one is more effective than another. They differ in how they are broken-down by the liver and their drug interactions. The effects of some PPIs may last longer and they, therefore, may be taken less frequently

You should be able to determine if the new med is helping with symptoms fairly quickly, if it is not then I would let the GI know.

So, I dug a bit after answering on your other post. I mean, I know dexilant by it's name and use but that was about all I knew.

Dexilant, as opposed to other ppi, is a different formulation. It is a dual-delayed release medication. It get released in your system on longer basis and further in your digestive system from what I understood of my reading. Therefore, it is probably a better option since your ulceration are in the duodenum rather than in the stomach. This is what I would believe.

Also, it seems it has shown to be more helpful for certain patient that were experiencing relief for only part of the day so they had to take PPI twice daily which is not necessarily well studied and approved practice. Therefore, the dexilant was proven more helpful as it remains in the system longer and cover the symptoms on a longer basis than the other ppi like prilosec.

Also, it seems that the other ppi are supposed to be taken on an empty stomach while this one can be taken regardless of the time at which you eat.

Anyway these are a few of the arguments I have encountered reading the following text:

Thanks so much for the help guys ill listen to the dr I guess what else can I do!! Lol I'm sure there's a good reason he wanted to use this ppi instead of prilosec well just have to wait and see!!! Ill let u guys now as time goes on if I can feel a difference!!
