I've been seeing my Dr. since 2007 and he's awesome. I use to do his billing and then when I almost died in 2008, he was the one that was there to get me back on track. We have a close relationship and I'm very comfortable around him. He's moving to Pennsylvania and I go see him one last time Thurs. I'm a little bit scared b/c he told me he doesn't trust anyone around here to take on my case so he's gonna send me to Birmingham. They have really good doctors there, it's just scary to see someone new who doesn't know my case. And I'm not sure how I will feel about talking to a new Dr. about embarrassing things. :yfrown:

I totally understand where you are coming from, I had the same Dr. from age 10-21 and then had to leave him because he was at childrens hospial in PA, which killed me and then moved to the university of penn hospital across the street to a wonderful wonderful dr. which I had until 29 and then last year he got an offer to go the mayo clinic and had to go:yfrown:, so now I am starting a new relationship with a new doctor, who is a female, which eventhough I am a female is a little weird. But things have worked out well and I really like her, so give it a try, I know its hard to talk to another Dr. about Crohns but I'm sure they have always heard worse. And don't settle on the first Dr. you get, if you can, try a few and check to see which one fits your personality, if you don't have a good relationship with your Dr. then you will never get the treatment you need. Hope this helps a bit. Shannon

I trust my dr will send me to someone great bc like I said we have a close relationship. It just will never be him. He was there during a major time in my life. I know also that he's only a phone call away and would be more than willing to help the new dr in any way he can. So u live where my dr is moving....I'm so jealous!

I totally understand, my Childrens GI handed me off to my Penn GI, who was his best friend and golf buudy, so it was a great handoff, also both of their names were DAVID, funny huh???? But now I have one of my former Doctors fellows that he trained, she will never be him, I still email him to give him updates, but she is a very good GI and we meld very well, its just really different, especially because my first transition was alot easier, so hopefully you will find another great GI. Shannon

I went through it a few months back, it takes time to build a relationship, I still don't have one with my new GI, I've only seen him twice.

But my doctor did something similar. instead of sending me to one of the doctor's he worked with he sent me to one at a different hospital that he had known since medical school and this one happened to be an IBD specialist as opposed to just a GI.

I fiond most doctors try to send you to someone that they trust, so that is comforting.

I live in northern alabama. You'll have to tell me if you like your new doctor. I've thought about going to birmingham for a consult with another doctor. My doctor is okay but I always like to have a 2nd opinion. I didn't like the doctors in my area so i drove all the way to huntsville to have my 2nd son even though its an hour away.

Where do live lola99? I live in Slapout. lol I will let you know how it goes. I go see my Dr tomorrow so I'll find out who he's sending me too. And I agree vonfunk..he's sending me to someone he trust b/c he says he doesn't trust anyone where I live..so that's a good thing for me.
