I have an abscess in my butt
right now. The doctors put in a couple tubes. One
is for draining and the other is to flush with saline.
Once a day, I get 15 mls of saline and squirt
it up the tube with a syringe. (hurts sooo much!!)
Has anybody else done that before? PLEASE SHARE
YOUR EXPERIENCES!!!!
Thanks

arg, i post too many threads:).

I have had the abscess since September.....Some docs thought
it would just go away with antibiotics :( i don't remember when I got the
tubes. I have had them for at least a month

It depends on the abscess, and how deep it is. Was it packed at first? I always thought a wound that is a cavity so to say needs to be packed so it can heal from the bottom up. Did you have a fistula first??? I've never had an abscess but hopefully someone with personal experience will come along.

Don't worry about starting too many threads...without threads we wouldn't have this great site.

I feel bad that you are in pain. I had an abcess once but it was at my surgery site 5 weeks later .. on my ileum. I refused another surgery and to be drained and wanted to see and take my chances if meds would work on their own. I feel bad that the antibiotics were not helping you. For me it cost me a 2 week hospital stay and for the first week not even being able to move and I felt like I was dying. The abcess with the meds alone luckily worked for me. I hope that soon your doctors are able to find you some relief from it.

Thanks you guys! i hope they can find something soon...
my doctor doesn't have much experience with an abscess that
came back like 4 times in exactly the same spot so he's kind of confused...

popcorn- i think i had a fistula first but i really have no idea... it could've
been different for every single abscess i have gotten. thats why i got the
ostomy. i can't believe my abscess was so bad i needed an ostomy.
i don't think it was neccesary but i would've done it anyway because
the pain was just WAY TOO MUCH!!!

Maybe you can get a referal to someone else that might be able to help you that he knows. Possibly your doctor can have another specialist look at your case. Two heads are better than one ....especially for cases with crohns sometimes.

Thanks, I'll ask him. I highly doubt I'm the only person who has
this. (this meaning a bunch recurrent abscesses, i mean)

What makes me frustrated is that because I have crohn's
every single common symptom that happens to just about everyone
has to have something to do with crohns in my mind. i have to be that much more careful with this stuff and so does everybody else. My doctor says people can have flare ups
every 5 years if they are in better control. hopefully the first year is also the worst. i can't believe it's been almost a year since i was diagnosed. hospital stays make days feel like foreverrrrrr

I had a seton for 6months and then the surgeon put a stitch in internally and filled the tract with fibrin. Didn't have to irrigate it or anything. Sounds fun :(
