My daughter was prescribed Miralax for constipation five days ago. We were told to give her 3 capfuls (24oz fluid) every day. We were to do this for three days and then see how this worked for her constipation. Well after the second day things cleared up. The doctor then told me to then keep giving her the Miralax, (1 capful everyday).
Now, she can not stand without running to the restroom. This is not normal for her. I've called the doctor and they said to keep her on it. But she can't even stand. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Ds has been on miralax for 4 years.
The dose you gave three days ago is what your seeing today .
Three capfuls a day would have been the clean out.
The one capful would be maintence .
Ds varies on how much he needs
He goes between 1/2 cap and 1full cap.
Again it's a three day thing so you can't change doses more than every three days.
Keep track of the number of bm's as well as bristol stool chart.
Most of his gi's don't want it to be pure liquid of thick pudding or formed is ok.

Good luck

Welcome mygirl.
My dd lives off of Miralax. It's important to keep the stool soft but I was told not "watery".

Where is her disease located?

Sometimes if there is a lot of scaring/inflammation the GI wants to
make sure the stool can get around it without causing obstructions,
hence the miralax.
Also when dealing with Miralax you should only adjust the dose by a teaspoon every 3 days.
Meaning it can take three days to see any changes.
Can you call again and ask for them to come up with a better solution?

Her disease is located mainly in her large intestine.

So what you guys are saying, is that the small dosage of Miralax will prevent her from being constipated again and the running to the restroom every time she stands will pass.
