I was wondering about the carbohydrate ingredient in an elemental diet and the main ingredients are things like maltodextrin, glucose, fructose et al.

However I have just wondered, why not just use pure apple juice? As far as I'm aware it is mainly sugar with fibre, vitamins and minerals stripped. That would taste better then the carb component in an elemental drink. Why is it not possible to take apple juice or fruit juice for your temporary carb needs.

Why not indeed, It's going to be a better choice than maltodextrin.

Maltodextrin -short chain of molecularly linked dextrose (glucose) molecule manufactured by regulating the hydrolysis of the starch (from potato, rice, or corn, and more commonly in Europe, wheat) so may contain traces of gluten and is linked to digestive issues (not sure about how strong the links are but it is a highly processed 'food-like product' which is probably best avoided) [1]

Well there must be a reason why people aren't taking it. Otherwise everybody would be taking it alongside simple hydrolysed whey and fat. Anybody else know why it isn't being taken?

doctors won't recommend fruit juice, they recommend whatever the industry tells them to.
There is no patent or profit in fruit juice
