Hi All. I am trying to treat a current flare with EN drinks. So far I have had Elemental 028, Vital and Modulen. I am just starting the Modulen. We are trying to find one that doesn't give chronic diarrhoea. I don't mind liquid in, liquid out, but they are literally going straight through me and I am living in the bathroom. Have lost loads of weight and feel exhausted. If Modulen doesn't work I expect it will be Preds. I am sipping, drinking lots of water and chilling. I would have loved to have gone down this route, am happy not eating, but can't cope with this much d. I only have 1.5metre of gut which may be part of the problem. Thanks in advance. Such fun!

Hi, have you tried any bile salt binders? Gosh, so sorry for the weight loss, it can be so trying.

I hope things work for you & that the scale tips in your favor soon!

I have been wondering about bile malabsorbtion as I have lost my ileum. I see my Consultant Tuesday, but am very tempted to try the Psyllium rusk tablets (forgive spelling!). I have to go to the Health Food shop today to get some Vitamin D, so will get some and give them a try. My dietitian says the drinks shouldn't be reacting with me the way they are. Thanks very much for your advice. x

I found Modulen did the same with me for the first couple of weeks but if I remember correctly it did calm down quite a bit and the weight loss stopped too. Hope you find something that works x

Hi Happy, are you able to drink Vivonex?? And i wonder how it compares to the 10??
Super that things are going well for you ;)

Hi If*,
Yes, I was able to drink the VivonexPlus. I was very ill at the time and had done three weeks of a total liquid diet of Ensure without any improvement and a GI appointment was months away, so I was highly motivated to drink it.

I am not sure that I could do it now! lol

Did you mean how does VivonexPlus compare to Vivonex T.E.N.? I am not sure, but here are links to the Vivonex products:

The RTF (Ready to Feed Product) was not available when I was on EEN.

If you decide to go this route, good luck!

Thank you! I was just wondering if one taste better then the other. I seem to be super taste or possibly scent sensitive and couldn't drink it. Frustrating!!
I have done total liquid b4 for about 6 months and was able to hold steady on weight. Now weight does not want to go on and is such a struggle to keep from loosing more.

Thank you again!!

I wasn't a fan of the taste of modulen on it's own but my GI doctor and dietician suggested putting crusha (milk flavouring) in it and it made it a lot more palatable and I still got the desired effect from taking it.

Hello all, thanks for the many replies. I'll discuss the whole thing with my Consultant on Tuesday. I am currently living on white fish, rice and homemade carrot soup and only one BM a day - possibly I am bullying it into submission! I desperately want a EN drink as my fall back position. Will check out Vivonex. Am feeling better and maintaining my current weight and have more energy, plus a life as not tied to the bathroom. Spending the weekend watching the golf, which is the next best thing to playing at least. xx

Hi EW8, Super to hear you are feeling a little better and that you are holding steady.
I am not too sure if it is true or not but sometimes 'D' can increase in the first couple weeks with EEN due to bad bacteria or SIBO being treated??

Hope you get back to golf soon!!
