Well last night after Andrew's shower I was checking his abcess (my regular nightly call of "right mum" so I can check his bottom) and there was a pinky size lump of fatty tissue poking out of a hole in the skin.
Surely they can't expect him to live with that, I would think that would get infected more easily since there is no skin to protect it.
I am on a mission - phoning round the nurses/doctors till I get someone to sort it out! Wish me luck :sign0085:

Good luck hun! I hope you not only get answers to the phone calls but answers full stop!

:goodluck::goodluck::goodluck:

Just as a side note, although Matt has never had an abscess on his bottom he did have a drain in the right lower side of abdomen and he had tissue protrude out the side of it. There were no problems with it becoming infected BUT I do agree that he shouldn't have to live with that, bless him...

You are so right! No child should have to put up with that! A simple drain or at most an out-patient surgery could probably fix it. If that isn't the case, then they are criminal for not addressing it. Good luck Mom!

Well finally heard back from the nurse (after waiting yet another 3 hours) - she will get Andrew to come into the hospital to see his paediatrician. Of course I will still probably end up having to take him to the kids hosp in Glasgow but heaven forbid they should cut the middle man!!
Here goes nothing!!

J, you made me lol...didn't know you could go ghetto lol!
Sascot, hoping you get some help...they can't expect him to live with that. right?!

Good luck! Alex has had two anal fistulas, the first we had drained, but the wound never closed - leading us to his Crohn's dx. The 2nd he had IV antibiotics - flagyl, cipro for 8 weeks!- after oral ones didn't do the job. They told me they prefer to treat medically before surgery, skin is kinda limited there I guess.

Well just great - we are still at home and no further forward!!!! They couldn't get hold of the surgeon and the paediatrician said there was no point him looking at it - it needs to be the surgeon. :ymad:
Andrew is in too much pain to go to school! I am going to be nagging them all day!!

Hello Sascot,

I hope you can get it looked at soon. I just wanted to say my son has had a perianal abscess, which turned in to a fistula, so I know how difficult these things are. His did eventually heal after the fistula was 'layed open' surgically, but it took months.

I know these perianal issues are not easy. I hope you get get it sorted soon and he can feel comfortable again and be back at school.

Take care,
LilyRose

Oh man Sascot, that is the pits. :(

Good luck with the nagging hun...:goodluck:
