entocort and family planning

hello,
it's my first post and it's a funny one. i tried searching for this topic but couldn't find anything specific to entocort.
basically, i am a male, 32 years old and me and my wife would like to start planning a family.
i am only on entocort capsules and i started taking it 10 days ago, so i have three more months to go.
is it safe for a male on entocort to start planning a family, or should we wait until i'm completely off entocort, which will be in about three months and we kind of wouldn't like to wait if we don't have to :)

any suggestions, or comments about this will be appreciated. thanks.

:welcome: Crohner to the forum! I have been on Entocort on and off for many years. Now off. It is one of the milder drugs to control symptoms. There has been females on Humira and Remicade whilst being pregnant and had healthy babies. I can't see why not.

Having said that these women were closely monitored and on the advice of a physician. Always ask your doctor to make sure. But in my opinion I think it should be ok.

Glad you found us, tell us more about you! Oh and good luck on the new family member coming our way soon. :)

I would ask your Dr. I was on remicade while pregnant. I also had to do a 10 wk run of entocort. i had a healthy baby but like Jetta said I was closely monitored.

thanks for your comments. i would like to talk to my doctor about it, but my next appointment is in almost 4 months and he can't see me earlier than that because their schedule is completely booked.
i also read a lot about side effects, warnings etc. about entocort and there is absolutely no mentioning of the effect on males who plan to have family. i assume that this means it is safe, otherwise there would be warnings, right?
in any case i will do more investigation on this, but if someone else can add to this thread please feel free.
thanks again. there is a lot of good information on this forum.

With an appt that late you must live in Canada !!:shifty-t: In Canada you normally have to wait that long.

Doesn't matter what drug or alcohol men are on, it has been said males need to be care too for a healthy baby. I think in your case you should be safe but we are not doctors , we only have opinions and experiences.

Entocort is mild and low side effects. Good luck :thumleft:.

Just call the office and tell them you have a question you need an answer to without an appointment. They should either have an on-call doctor who can answer it or pass the message to your doctor who can return the call without an appointment. That would be your best bet. If that doesn't work, try seeing your general practitioner and ask them. If they are unsure, they might be able to get you the answer faster. Your wife's ObGyn might also be able to get you an answer or know the answer as well.

Good luck! And as previously said it shouldn't be an issue, but can't hurt to check and be sure.
