Hi all.
I've had Cronhs for about 10 years on and off. Not too severe- I haven't had any operations or anything, but I've spent two plus years (two separate occasions) on Methatrexate and absolutely hated it. They're trying me on Entocort now (it's the only med I'm on other than Pentasa and pain killers for a back problem), and I'm wondering if anyone one else has experienced the following side effects:
1. Extreme weakness, especially in the hands and arms. I find it hard to hold even a telephone to my head for long. My body feels really heavy and I feel like I just ran a marathon on an empty stomach. When I get home from work (after sometimes having to leave early), I just lay down and watch movies. I don't feel like doing anything. Sex drive and motivation are gone. It's worse in the evening.
2. Cravings for fatty and sweet junk food (ie: pop, fried foods, pizza, pub food...) this is most unlike me- especially with the sweet things. I'm also eating a lot more than usual. Maybe it's my body trying to fight the weakness by upping my energy levels. I've only been on the stuff for two weeks and I think I've already gained weight.
3. Insomnia. So so tired, but have a very hard time falling asleep. When I do, it's a restless light sleep and I awake many times during the night.
Those are the main ones. There's also an odd taste in my mouth and my stomach always feels like I have gut rot- like a bowling ball is stuck in there- even when empty- but I can live with that. I've also noticed more tension headaches, teeth grinding and leg shaking. The Methatrexate of course also made me weak, as do flare ups, but not this bad. I hope I can manage to stay on it for the whole duration (2 months).
It would be great to know if other people are going through this too- and if there's anything that can be done about it.
Thanks in advance!
