Ever been told prep wasn't good enough?

I don't know why, but i'm terrified my prep won't be good enough...Has anyone had that happen? I mean, i'm following my direction, but for some reason i'm still worried.

Dont worry! Im sure you'll be fine! I dont think its that hard to screw up, and Im sure they can still get the job done enough. :)

If an area has some flecks of stool, they can instill water to clean the area. This is done if they see something suspicious. My first colonoscopy said 80% clear. I never heard anything negative from the doctor. You will be fine. You are just having pre-procedure anxiety.

Oh no don't worry at all. I varied ways away from my schedule last time. Infact I had to jump off the examining table just before the sedation drug just to run to the bathroom. I had to start late because my bank went down meaning I couldn't buy the stuff intime because I don't have credit cards.... Anywho its fine. I didn't even drink all the laxative I was suppose to because I couldn't possibly stomach anymore. You'll be fine I'm sure and good luck!

The time I thought I still had to "go", my doc said that they can suck it out if they find anything there. I think they might do that regularly like the dentist does. (I have NO idea why I wrote that - just reminds me of that high powered sucker tube thingy, lol) I wouldn't worry.

Don't sweat it... they have a little vacuum cleaner!

I've had incompletes preps on a couple of occassions. They'll see what they need to see in there regardless...

I've had one 'Sub-optimal Prep' comment, where he hosed my insides down to see what was going on.

I also had one abandoned procedure, although I was told that it wasn't actually my fault.

Thanks everyone. Maybe i'll take some ativan tomorrow morning, help me relax a little...I'm really stressing for some reason!

Adivan is a great idea especially if your afraid of needles like I am. Good luck with the scope and I hope all goes well. I found it quite amusing sitting on the toliet after drinking all my prep fluids haha!

I didn't believe my prep would be considered adequate yesterday w/ all the problems I seemed to be having. First, I only drank about half of the gallon the night before the scope. Then I woke up and found that everything coming out had darkened up again, so I chugged another 1/4 of it yesterday morning. I seriously took 3 bathroom breaks as I was waiting for them to get me for my scope. I was still clearing out then.

Alas, they said nothing about it being inadequate, and the pics I saw looked pretty clear... clear enough to see some red stipling looking irritation or whatever on the walls. IDK...

All 3 of my colonoscopies have been bad. On each report, they say poor prep. I mean, I would take the prep, have clear liquid stool and obviously it's not good enough. The nurses, after the procedure, even asked if I took the prep and asked how I took it (almost like they don't believe me). For one, I was even given Fleet Phospho soda before it was red-labeled by the FDA with the same result.

Hi Pam, just thought I'd mention that if you take Ativan, make sure you tell them because they will be giving you plenty of other drugs! Hovewer, as you are a nurse I expect you know that!

Good luck! :)

I had a problem with a barium enema x-ray... so the flushing/sucking it out wasn't an option. The stuff tends to get a bit stuck around the ascending colon, which is where I have all my internal fistulas (so I'm told). They treated me as if I hadn't done the prep properly, which I had and I had to go through it all again. Next time I'm going on liquids only for the week before a procedure.

I haven't had that problem, but was also worried myself it wouldn't be enough. From what I understand as long as what you have going out is clear liquid with no particles you are fine (even if that liquid is yellowish brown). If you aren't cleaned out enough, they may ask you to do a Fleet enema.

What are you using for the prep? I had GoLightly (PEG + electrolytes) and b/c I got nauseous I could only finish 3 out of 4 liters, but they said I did a good job getting cleaned out.

I also had Picolax. I think i'm good, it's yellowish with no floaties. Some mucous looking stuff, but i don't think there's any stool left. Thanks again for all your tips everyone. :)
