Does anyone know if a raised faecal calprotectin result can indicate something other than Crohns? My levels have twice come back high (my consultant said that the first test was so high they thought it was a lab error to start with) but the barium, colonoscopy and endoscopy have all come back clear. Just wondering if the raised levels could indicate something that wouldn't be picked up on these other tests? Am having a pill camera in two weeks time but am wondering what the next step will be if this too comes back clear?

Hey Dannid, i asked my gi this question, he said that an infection could cause calprotectin levels to rise... Have you had stool tests to rule things like that out? I hope you get some answers soon.

This has been going on for over a year now Thunderstorm but they did run tests to rule out infection back at the beginning.

Joshuaaa my symptoms seem to be getting worse in that, I was having 'episodes' of sickness and diarrhoea every month or so (I have had 16 episodes in the last 12 months) ..but feeling ok in between...lately I seem to constantly feel unwell. I am constipated and am trying to relieve this with drinking prine juice every day. Always seem to have this feeling of never being 'completely empty'. Am also really gassy..both ends...constant cramping in my tummy (normally lower part) and an odd burning sensation (in the upper part, just above my belly button)..sometimes it feels like my tummy is bruised/aching as if the muscles are tender. Weirdly eating seems to somewhat relieve the symptoms temporarily. I can't seem to notice any common factors that could be triggering this...and other than the raised faecal calprotectin all the tests I have had have come back normal.

:( shame you poor thing, nothing worse than when you don't know whats causing it, I have had similar feelings off fullness and not feeling like iv totally gone, also pretty sore abdo pains, hate it. Today I feel way better symptom wise, iv hardly eaten though, and all I have had is the SCD intro diet, do you do any special dieting?

I don't at the moment but am starting to think that after the camera pill I give it a go. Im really worried about doing any though as my husband and I are what I would consider 'foodies' and I know I'm gonna struggle with it. :( How are you finding it? Does it seem to be helping? I'm also worried about loosing any more weight as at 5'7" and under 7.5 stone...I don't have a lot left that I can afford to loose!
