So I really am in a bit of a dilemma here. I have family visiting for the next few days, which is drastically altering my eating habits. They have a tendency to "force feed"......plop food down in front of you and badger you to keep on eating, eating, eating. Last night it was pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, and onions; lunch today was a huge sub on wheat bread with cheese, onions, lettuce, peppers, mayo.......my guts are KILLING me!!!!!

Any advice on how to tactfully refuse food that's awful for my poor bowels? Four more days of this and I'll be a gooey ball on my bathroom floor :(

Is there any way to tactfully refuse? I'm afraid I don't think so. As hard as it is, you need to put your health before your family. The approach is up to you. You could be blunt and rude and say "no way" you could be polite "no, thank you I can't eat that with my medical condition" or you could graphically explain what will happen if you eat that.

It sounds like you need to start educating your family about your problems so they understand. Tell them the things you can eat- they won't know unless you do.

No-one can force you to eat anything you don't want to, not even with hurt faces or emotional blackmail!

I know exactly how you feel. When we go to visit my in-laws it's about as bad. They really like spicy stuff and it's bad enough to give you heartburn. My husband is used to eating like me now and isn't used to that spicy stuff anymore. So, our insides are completely burning by the time we come back home. The only choice we have is to take a smaller portion, be kept awake at night eating bread to help our poor stomachs along with antacids...

We're so alike in this it's scary! Is there anyway that perhaps a meal could be cooked seperately, or prepared seperately when you eat with family? I don't know your bad foods, but something like a soup, or instant mash potato could be cooked quickly, and since you're eating differently, there might be less chance of family being odd?
Maybe even eating at a different time, if thats possible?
I know what you mean about finding it hard to refuse, especially if it's food you like as well. I think I'm going to tape a list of bad foods to the fridge, so no one cooks them for me!
Sorry for not having many answers, but I empathise, a hundred percent :)

Tonight's fare is spicy crabs. Sheesh!!! I'm just flat-out going to avoid dinner tonight......fortunately it'll be served right at my son's bath time :)

But I like the food list idea!!!!!
