My daughter was originally diagnosed with UC 13 yrs ago. Later the doc said it was presenting more as Crohn's, which doing research, appears accurate.

She's been on so many meds, has a narrowing in her gut, and recently had a, "different" type of flare. (Her words). She's afraid of Remicade and would rather have surgery, but that's so final.

Has anyone explored, researched, done a fecal transplant? These, apparently, don't need to be done at a medical facility, and I'm wondering what the thoughts and experiences are out there.

Thanks, in advance, and Have a Blessed Day!

there is a fecal transplant thread which can help you learn more. its still considered experiamental but there have already been reports of some patients being free of symptoms up to 13 years with no need of drugs afterward. this is the first evidence they may have been cured buts its still a little up in the air. The doctors that observed this believe they have been and for both conditions UC and crohn's.

I have done 4 fecal transplants, tried making a pill the first 2 times then drank the solution 2x. The third time is the only time I saw benefits, i gained 10 pounds in about 8 weeks without eating more food, I believe i restored some of the bacteria that were killed from antibiotics when I first started getting sick, but many symptoms remain and i believe the bacteria that regulate inflammation were not succesfully restored so i will be doing it all again soon. donor and patient diet must be very high in fiber to be successful. donor must be very healthy.

Hi! Thanks for the message. I'm currently being treated by Prof. Borody in Australia who pioneered this type of treatment. I must say, I've seen a LOT of people who have basically been "cured" after treatment with Borody. There are a number of factors that have to be considered in treatment- right down to things like donors mustn't have ever drunk much alcohol, been on drugs etc in addition to all of the actual bacterial/viral screens. It's also rather expensive however from my personal experience, I would choose this over any other treatment type. You're generally on a long dose of anti-MAP antibiotics and then have a few fecal infusions (I'm just starting these now). He has however, now developed what he calls "crapsules" which are just that- the bacteria in capsules so you don't need the infusions.

So far, I honestly feel about 200% better than I was a few months ago when it all started. I'm basically back to normal. My impressions are however, if you are interested in this type of treatment I'd still try and see Borody in Sydney. The whole thing is still very much in early stages and he seems to make changes to the way things are done a lot.

I hope that didn't sound salesy- I just know what I've experienced here and would love for others to benefit the same way.

All the very best to you and your daughter.

J

PS. In addition only about 1 in 400 people who try to donate their poop to him are actually accepted after lab tests etc. It's definitely not just a case of taking anyone's poop to use. Gross, I know! :)

Do you know if Dr Borody sees patients from the US?

Do you mean in the US or if they come to Sydney? I know he'll only see people if they come to Sydney- he's booked out for new patients about a year in advance. However, his 'crapsules' are currently being manufactured in the US and will make the need to see him much less.

Hi verrucktfuchs….thanks so much for your reply….I live in the US and was wandering if you knew if he sees patients from the US in Australia. But even so...that is a really long wait time…I need something sooner for my son…I will check with some of the doctors closer for now…but thank you so much for your info and wish you continued success with your treatment.
