Hi
I had a bowel resection a week ago and only on day 5 and 6 did I have a bowel motion that was firm and a little hard to release. I am feeling constipated since then and wondering if this is normal as I've read and been advised that having diahrea is the norm.
I had 15 cm of my terminal illium removed

Thanks

It could be from the pain meds. It is something you should let the doc know about. Straining is not good so soon after surgery.

Hope you feel better soon.

I felt a bit like that, and didn't have much diarrhoea. Basically everything was weird for the first 2 weeks, including the feeling of being "bunged up", even though I probably wasn't really constipated. Then after 2 weeks things got back to more or less normal.

I had the same issue post resection. It's likely from the pain meds and possibly a low fibre/residue diet post resection.
