For the last 2 days, I have had a headache, feverish feeling, and a bad stomach. I keep having really bad wind, and watery diarrhoea. I'm absolutely starving, eating makes me feel better for a few minutes, then my stomach gurgles and aches. The thing is, this is completely different to my normal Crohn's symptoms (which are pain, vomiting but not diarrhoea). But surely if it was a stomach bug I would be feeling much worse? Whatever it is, I don't like it.

Sorry to hear this, Rebecca. I hope it's just a bug and not a flare! I've had stomach bugs like this that were more diarrhea than nausea/vomiting. Sometimes they can last a few days. Do you have a fever (you said feeling feverish but you didn't say if you actually have a fever)? On the rare ocassions I have a fever (I never seem to get them in flares - I get chills but not fevers), I always call my doctor. Fever is a symptom that's best not to ignore. So if I were you, I'd call up the doc and let them know what's going on. They may want to see you or they may just advise you to keep hydrated and eat bland foods - the BRAT diet would probably be good - and ride it out.

I don't know if I have a fever because I don't have a thermometer! (naughty, I know). I have been mainly eating BRAT foods, turkey, mashed potatoes and ginger biscuits. And plenty of water and Bovril to drink. There is a bug going round school, but it's a vomiting bug rather than a diarrhoea one. So at first I thought I was just stressed because a child vomited next to my desk. (I have a phobia) Luckily I wasn't there at the time!

Aw Rebecca, hope it's just a stomach bug and nothing more sinister.
Keep your eye on it and check in with the doc if you don't feel any better after 48 hours.
xxxxx

Naughty you, not having a thermometer! Can you get someone to feel your forehead and see if it feels warm? I know that's not as accurate but most people can tell regular forehead heat apart from a fever. I get bad chills when I flare, but oddly no fever, and during my first few flares before I bought a thermometer, I'd have co-workers feel my forehead, and they always said it felt normal. Now I check my temperature all the time in a flare, and it's always either normal or even a little low.

I wonder if the same bug can affect people differently? Maybe you did catch the same bug but it gave you d instead of vomiting. I remember you talking about your phobia and I feel for you because, although I wouldn't consider it a full-blown phobia, I cannot stand to see people vomit either. The sight of it makes me so nauseous I'm liable to vomit myself! (I do have a phobia of dead taxidermied animals, so I recognize the difference between extreme distaste of something and phobia of something - I'd say I have an extreme distaste of seeing others vomit.)

Anyway, that was long-winded but I hope you get to feeling better soon! In the meantime, lots of rest and fluids, and call the doctor, and then rest some more! ;)

My boyfriend said my forehead feels warm. My skin is hot to the touch but I feel cold inside. If I'm not feeling better by tomorrow afternoon, I'll ring my GP. Thanks for the well wishes everyone!

So hard to tell sometimes what's Crohns and what's not! Hope you're getting plenty of rest and let us know how you get on with the doc . X

Waaaahhhh! (sorry just needed to get that out). It's 3:30 am, I can't sleep even though I'm exhausted. I got up for diarrhoea twice. So now I am downstairs with a heat pad and rehydration fluids. I have sipped half a glass over the last half hour, and I had to go back to the bathroom. I'm now running clear. So at least if I need a scope I'll be ready. All I can say is, I'm glad I don't have this every night like some of you guys do. I take my hat off to you!

That sucks, Rebecca! It can be hard to tell the difference between Crohn's and the stomach flu. Some of the those episodes have felt very similar to me. When I get the stomach flu, I really feel like vomiting, along with the diarrhea. With Crohn's it's usually more of the the urgency to use the restroom and the cramping pains. I also can get a lot of nausea with my flare-ups. The urge to puke happens more when I have the stomach flu. Hang in there sweetie. It probably just needs to run its course, but it feels like an eternity.

Doctor says probably virus, I'm already doing everything right, let them know if there's anything like blood, or if I'm not better a week after it started. The good news is, the fever may have broken, because I've started sweating (only a little though, because I'm clearly dehydrated).

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell, Rebecca! I sure hope it is just a bug and will be on its way soon. Keep us posted!

I had something like this last weekend, gave up with Immodium as it just wasn't helping. I find having a nice hot bath very soothing, I think probably with these bugs it would go quicker if I didn't eat for a couple of days but when your hungry & there's not much of you its difficult to not to.
