I have a refill on a prescription by a doctor I don't see anymore. Would the doctor know if I use the refill? Do they get notification?

I suppose I just feel awkward since I stopped seeing them for someone new.

What kind of prescription is it? If it's a narcotic or something like that I wouldn't have it filled. In the US at least they can monitor that and it might seem as if you're trying to get drugs, if you know what I mean. I work at a doctor's office and if there is a refill remaining on a patient's prescription we don't know if it gets filled or not. It's only if the pharmacy or patient asks us for a refill that we are notified of anything. If you need the med and you have a refill though I say refill it. It shouldn't hurt anything.

A doctor doesn’t know if a script has been filled or not.

Since it sounds like a repeat of a med you are already taking I wouldn’t have an issue having it filled, then again, maybe I am unscrupulous. :eek2:

Oh thought I'd put this out there. Depending on where you live, pharmacies won't fill things that are over a year old. But it should say on the refill part ex: "refill x 2 by 3/10/13" or something like that. At least that's how it is here in Kansas US.

Yes there is a date on it, I think it's a year from the original prescription. I think for controlled substances in NY a prescription expires after 1 month.
