After 2 years of looking for the answer, endless appointments and tests I finally have an answer.

I had the pill cam last Friday and the results were Crohn's. Specifically in my small bowel. The doctor said I also have lots of ulcers as well!

I have very mixed feelings about this. Excited about having a diagnosis, but uncertain as to what it means. I don't have an appointment to go through everything until the 18th of May because I will be on vacation until the 16th but then I can get some more answers from the doctor. Any advice from you all out there? Any books that people have found to be helpful since a million hits come up on Amazon? Any advice will be welcome. I just want to thank you all for your support as well. It makes me tremendously happy to come on here and read all of your posts and know that there are others fighting against this as well.

Happy Monday!

Congratulations and commiserations. I know exactly how you feel having just gone through 8 months of pain and not knowing. Yes, it is sad that it is Crohn's but the relief at knowing what it is and being able to start doing something about it is such a massive relief.
Can;t really offer a lot of advice as I'm a newb Crohnie too, but here on the forum is a great place to start. I've got my first GI consult on 16th May. Enjoy your holiday and let us know how it goes on 18th.

Hiya
and Keep Smiling!
At last, a diagnosis, not the end of the world, but an end to the unknown.
Knowing what I know now, I had no Internet and forums when I was dx, I would talk about the meds regime, what are they gonna do as a maintenance?
Are you still on metronidazole? And Asacol?
I've got Crohn's in the small intestine too and my maintenance med is Pentasa.
Asacol a family member of Pentasa is used more for UC and Crohns in large bowel.
How about you talk about the biologics?
Depends of course on the severity of your symptoms.
Good luck at your consult and happy jollies!

Kait, congratulations! I'm a bit jealous, as I'm still undiagnosed myself (just over a year and a half now, so not quite as long as you waited for answers). Obviously I haven't been through this myself, but I'm sure it'll take a bit for everything to sink in and feel real. You have a few weeks until your appointment, so try to take some time to write down all your questions and concerns (I find that my mind goes completely blank when I walk into my GI's office, so writing things down helps me immensely!). Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Oh, and enjoy your vacation! Going anywhere fun?

Thanks for the responses! I will definitely have to write this down. My mind definitely blanks the second I walk in too. On the 18th I'll have my consultation and he said new meds/different treatment plan then. In the meantime my boyfriend and I are headed to Washington D.C. For a week so I'm planning on having as much fun as possible. And maybe not eating for 24 hours before my flight just in case ;)

I am so sorry about being diagnosed with Crohn's, Kait. However, hopefully you can receive the right treatment now and start to feel better.

Enjoy your trip and have some fun!

Hi kait I was only 100% diagnosed in April after my pill cam.......
So I was wondering what your doc said about how it went etc or did u get sent a report etc , mine basically said......
Small area of ulceration and stricture consistent with crohns , pill cam only went for 1 hr 40 mins instead of 8 hrs and got stuck there so the rest hasn't been seen.
I'm currently back in hospital in pain an the rest of it lol but haven't been put on any crohns meds yet .
I was put on pred in sept 40mg and it worked fantastic till I had to taper off them , then my probs started up bad again .
Can u explain what happened wiv your pill cam leading to diagnosis or were u just told crohns?
Jen xx

Kait.. are they after a biopsy or will they treat you on the basis of the images on the pillcam? (did ask this on the undiagnosed bit but assume you haven't seen it)

Congratulations on getting a diagnosis.
I know it must give a mixed emotion but at least you can start some treatment now and won't be fobbed off

Good luck and there is loads of support here :thumright:
