Bolton,
I fully realise that this may not be the right way to be dealing with this issue, but I have been having such problems with urgency and my doctor never seems to hear me when I explain how bad its getting.

I hurt my back again last week and few 4 days I was taking cocodamol for the pain. For those 4 days my bowel habits were the best they have been in a long time. I've been going to the toilet no more than twice a day, had very little urgency and no pain.

I understand codeine isn't meant for long term use and I don't use this every day. People say they get a 'buzz' when they take it but I personally don't feel this. But during the days when I've taken the pain relief I've managed to go out for a meal with friends and not have to rush to the bathroom.

I've found now that if I take 2 tablets in the morning and 2 at night, every 3-4 days, it really has helped me immensely. I'm not recommending this to anyone, but this is what works for me and I've found that it's given me just that bit more freedom to be out of the house that I never felt before. It makes such a huge difference just to be able to eat out with friends with confidence!!

I noticed the same thing a bunch of years ago. Can't remember why I had to take the codeine. Would be nice if someone could find a way to get that effect for us without the nasty buzz!

I don't know what kind of a buzz people get, I really can't imagine, but it does the complete opposite for me, totally wipes me out and sends me to sleep!

I had it years ago after an operation and it made me sleep but these days I'm not too bad. I don't understand how its meant to be addictive but I suppose people deal with things differently.

Its been wonderful leaving work and coming home and having controlled bowel movements. They're by no means solid but I can hold it if I need to without having to rush off. I've got a review next month at the hospital and I'm pretty sure I'll get told off for doing this but when no one seems to listen I feel like I have to deal with things in a way that works for me. And if it brings back just a tiny bit of normality to my life then I don't care! I've been able to pass wind without worrying which is a HUGE deal to me.

I didn't get any "buzz" or anything else from co-codamol.I was taking it for chronic back ache and arthritis for 3+yrs.It worked very well for that, but didn't relieve "urgency"at all.I use prescription loperamide for that. The unwanted side affect of co-codamol for me was high blood pressure.I am now using Tramadol & Amytryptaline and my BP is back to normal.

Hi no buzz for me either, n i use co-codemol, tramadol, paracetamol, n loperamide in various doses as required for my joint pain, though not the loperamide lol. tho i do find i sleep better at night when on the tramadol then when im not ..

Codeine is very constipating in people with normal bowel movements. It stands to reason that it would help those with diarrhea to have more normal bowel habits.
