My son who was diagnosed with cd about a week and a half ago and after jumping through many hoops with insurance had his first treatment of Remicade yesterday and day 3 on 6mp along with it. I have been so scared and am still on the scary scary side effects these meds can cause down the road but right now all I can do is focus on him getting better. So far he has lost 27 pounds and has iron deficiency anemia. I pray he starts to feel better now and I hope that the constant worry about these meds will go away. Thanks for listening.

It's a hard road, but yes, once you see your child improve, your worries will subside. You'll likely always sit on edge, but you will relax a little. sending support and prayers...

Yes...we have a saying around here...the meds look like scary monsters but when they work and your child is out living a normal life they are a basket of kittens! You will eventually find yourself holding on to these meds for dear life.

I hope Remi is the miracle for your boy that it was for my daughter.

Praying for you and your boy!! Healing is a long road filled with a few ups and downs so don't get discouraged. :)

I was worried about the meds constantly at first too, I cried the first day I gave my son his meds thinking he would never have another med free day in his life. But there are major advancements in crohn's disease and we have had a Dr. friend of ours tell us he believes there will be a cure for at least some variations of crohn's in my son's lifetime. So the reality of todays treatments will continue to improve.

I also feel much better about the meds because my son before meds was losing weight at each check up and completely stopped growing. Since getting on meds he has grown 9 inches and gained almost 70 lbs. So the meds might not be great for them, but it is much better for them than the untreated disease.

Prayers and (((((hugs)))) for your boy:ghug: Please let us know how he is doing!

Hope it works well for him with no side effects.

Remember to breathe. It really does help. And I know that, like so many of us on the board, you are grateful for the fact that there are meds to treat this disease.

Sending hugs! I agree with everyone else -- once my daughter got better I completely forgot about scary side effects. Good luck:goodluck: hope the meds work quickly for your boy!

Good luck to you and your son. I hope we are all celebrating your son's Remicade/6MP success story for many years to come.

Good luck, we fought jumping on the remi wagon for a long time and so glad we did now. My son has felt the best he ever has since diagnosis 4 1/2 years ago. He is finally growing and gaining weight. I hope it works really well for a very long time for you.

I am sending healing thoughts and hugs! I am only on this forum for myself, but keep track of these wonderful moms (dads), and their very brave children who go through so much. You will find the support that you need here! Yes... the pros and cons of these wonder drugs can be very bittersweet, but you are right, to focus on him getting better!:ghug:
