hello! i'm currently undiagnosed and VERY DESPERATE for some answers!
i won't go into too much detail about my symptoms as my doctor suspects it could be crohn's based off how i feel and whatnot - i'm sure everyone knows what that feels like haha. my colonoscopy is on saturday and i have a few questions:
for me, some days are worse than others. some days i will experience pretty severe symptoms, and other days things aren't so bad. i've gone a while without answers and am very anxious to have some ideas soon following the colonoscopy.
i'm worried that because i haven't been feeling too bad this week, the colonoscopy will come up as inconclusive. i feel like it will be easier to identify what my problems are if i am scoped during a "bad day." i would obviously want my doctor to see me at my worst, so that he can get a good idea of what's going on. does that make sense?
i don't want to seem like i'm hoping to start having 'bad days' again soon, but i would really hate to come out of this without an answer.. it's definitely getting frustrating not knowing what's going on:ybatty:
that being said, do you guys think there is anything i can do to make my symptoms more...prevalent again before the scope? or do you think that my doc will be able to see something regardless of what kind of day i'm having?

thank you so much in advance for reading this!! hope everyone is doing well :)

If you have any food that bothers you eat it :D Enjoy it all!!!! For me acidic foods, dairy products, high fiber foods, spicy foods, and certain fruits and veggies twist me up. I eat really bland... :(

I had very similar worries but the prep itself is very good at irritating the colon since it makes you pass so much so quickly. I'd be more worried about it hurting too much! I hope you have someone to drive you there.

Hopefully, the colonoscopy will give you answers. The doctor will take biopsies to see if there's any inflammation that isn't visual. Good luck with the test.

thank you all sooo much for responding so quickly! thankfully my mom is able to drive me. i have to commute from the city on friday though, which is the day of my prep day and i'm a little nervous about getting dizzy/dehydrated because of the whole clear liquid fast thing. i'm sure it will all be fine.
until then, guess i'll eat whatever i want. no more bland foods for me... until saturday that is ;)

If you have inflammation in your gut, it won't heal with a couple of days of feeling "not too bad". I had no symptoms when I was diagnosed and my gut looked like hamburger. I went from zero to severe Crohns in one hour. I'd never even suspected that I had a problem.

Don't bother eating trigger foods - it'll just make your prep a terrible experience. Prep is bad all on its own. Follow your doctor's orders for the prep. There are a couple of threads on the forum for making the prep more livable. Count on not working the day before the scope and you may want to take the day off after the scope. Just to get your gut back to solid food. You will usually need someone to escort you home after the scope as you should be given a sedative.

Don't worry - your doctor knows what to look for. You should be able to get a diagnoses from the scope if you're having IBD symptoms. Take care and good luck!

i guess i will have a better idea after my first prep.. but if there is more food 'stuff' in my intestine will it make prep worse? i eat pretty bland usually so do you think i should cut back? i also read juicing some meals a day or two before could help. i guess maybe i'll give that a try also?

My GI had me on soft foods for 3 days before - no fibre. Clear fluids the day before the prep and only clear fluids with the prep. No liquids with red or blue dye - so only yellow or clear Gatorade.

Don't worry - the prep will clean you right out as long as you drink it all. Depending on which prep you use (I had Colite), if you drinking large amounts of the prep, the taste can be really icky. So I suck pepper mints between glasses to get the taste out of my mouth.

Don't worry - the GI's know what they're doing. The only time it doesn't work is when patients don't follow directions.

Use a straw if you can, it helped a lot for me because I got less on my tongue. Admittedly the taste is really vile, it's full of electrolytes so your tongue does the tasting as much or more then your nose dose.

The prep we use in Canada now isn't bad tasting at all! I'd even go as far as saying its a nice refreshing lemony taste. Only 2 8-12 ounce size glasses 4 hrs apart. I still feel nauseous drinking it because I know what it will do to me in 2 hrs, but way better than the gallon of prep we used to have to drink. Clear fluids the day before is VERY helpful.
