i'm having my first colonoscopy tomorrow, will the gi tell me anything after the procedure? or do i have to wait? he has unofficially diagnosed me with crohns and i would like to have a diagnosis so i can hopefully start on a medicine regiment. for the past two months i have been on 30mg prednisone, and i would really like to start tapering that.
hope all is well

With mine my doctor always gives me the results right after, but I was always to groggy to understand so make sure the person with you takes notes or something.

I have never been given results right after the tests because I have been too out of it to understand anyways so why waste the time? It also depends on whether or not you are getting biopsies taken which (where I am) takes about 10 days to get the results so I just made a doctors appointment and discuss the results in the office

Hi, when I had my colonoscopy they told me during the procedure that I had crohn's. Once I had recovered a IBD nurse came round and talked me through what they found ect. I then had to wait 10-14 days for the biopsy results. Good luck! Hope it all goes well for you tomorrow :) x x x

The doctor should come talk to you as soon as you wake up and explain what he/she saw during the procedure. If you have a biopsy taken, results come back after a week or so.

thank you for your responses! i am excited to get this over with and hopefully have some answers today! i'll let you know. thanks again

colonoscopy is over (i'm not sure what they gave me for drugs during because i was awake and alert but not in pain or anything, it was weird), and i guess my gi is leaning towards ulcerative colitis now. my small intestine looks fine. but he is starting to taper my prednisone from 30mg to 20 for two weeks, then 15. and he also prescribed apriso. nervous about tapering pred, and for the possible side effects from the new med but i am very releaved!

I hope everything works out. Hopefully they got you on a med that will help. I am still playing the med game. I go for another scope on the 20th to see how much damage but they are sure my small intestine is involved so it's def crohns for me. Keep us updated on how things go.
