Hi all...tomorrow is JW's first Remicade infusion and I am quite nervous. Would love to hear some experiences (good or bad) that your kids have had with the first infusion.

Thanks so much!

Hey Steph,

Sorry hun, no experience with Remi here but would like to send you loads of luck and well wishes for tomorrow!...:goodluck:

Dusty.

Theres loads of threads about peoples 1st infusions if you fancy looking at the infliximab forum :) Good Luck

Our first infusions were no problem it was the second that my daughter had an allergic reaction. Most people do fine though. Did they tell him to take benadryl and Tyleno one hour prior? Our doctor does that.

Good luck today - I've had no issues during my infusions...and yes - to be safe you probably should ask about pre-meds.....

Do you know what dosage he is starting out on?

Wishing JW the best of luck! They gave Izz tylenol and Benadryl at the infusion unit 30 minutes prior...and she has had no trouble with the infusions at all...thinking of you today!

The infusion room where we went was great. The nurses were really good at putting in IV's quickly and painlessly and they were sooo nice to my son. Treated him like a king. He got any food/snack he wanted. Could play video games or watch any movie he wanted from a long list. We had the allergic reaction also, but if he hadn't had that happen, it would have been ok with my son to go there every 8 weeks. (The allergic reaction is a small chance).

I had my first infusion last Friday. I got benedryl and tylenol beforehand. The infusion was painless and smooth. I napped off and on through it (due to the benedryl). I started seeing improvement in my symptoms 2 days after the infusion.

My son's first treatment was yesterday. He took it like a champ with Tylenol and benadryl also given. He did get a little dizzy while inputting the iv but other than that all went well. He had a rough night last night though. Cramping in his stomach was off and on from 9:00 to about 2:00 in the morning. Hoping this will kick in fast.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words and info :) JW did great with his infusion! He did get IV Benadryl and some Tylenol beforehand. The doc did tell us just how worried he has been b/c the radiologist actually called him while JW was still in the MRI, this is progressing very fast!

Thanks for the update Steph. :)

It's so fab to hear all went well, YAY! I hope it stays that way hun and the Remi stops the Crohn's in its tracks!

Dusty. xxx

so glad his first infusion was successful !
Here's hoping that it heals him quickly and he can have many happy years of remission!
Best of luck :)
