Working with a naturopathic physician, I have found high doses of quality fish oil to help with my flare ups immensely. I had taken fish oil previously with no noticeable results, but she had me take a better quality and higher dose of fish oil and I had a near total reduction of flare pain, and the bleeding and diarrhea stopped as well.

I currently take 2-4 tablespoons per day of NOW brand lemon flavored fish oil from a lab in Norway. Before this I was taking a much more concentrated and refined version from Metagenics which works even better, but is much more expensive.`

Two days ago she also gave me an IV of "Meyer's Cocktail" which is vitamins in the vein. After years of adjusting to Crohn's related malnutrition I was pleasantly surprised when this perked me up and lifted my bad mood, and banished my near continuous anxiety. I've been feeling much more energetic since then, sleeping better and overall smiling and laughing more.

Fish oil never helps me and increases my diarrhea. I think the Meyers iv is interesting in theory but isn't substantiated by science nor do mainstream doctors approve .

Yeah, well, in 4 years of meds and radical surgeries, mainstream medicine has done next to nothing for me. In two months this naturopath has helped me more than they have in 4 years. So I really could care less what their highly biased opinion of the Meyer's cocktail is. They have an obvious incentive to speak as disparagingly as possible about alternative therapies.

Furthermore, allopathic medicine is only one approach to healing, not the ultimate authority. There are other branches of medicine such as homeopathic and osteopathic, and some that have been tested by millennia of trial and error, such as acupuncture, yoga, etc. I like to think I can take the best from all of them rather than put blind faith in any one kind of healing.

I'm not discounting alternative therapy, I'm a believer in trying safe routes and everyone is very different.

I'm glad you are doing well, whatever the reason. Many of us on here have tried fish oil among other things without success.

I would agree that big pharma has an interest in discounting alternative therapy but I'd also argue that there is a financial incentive for all kinds of alternative therapies to be promoted. That's why we must trust the science and our own experience as well as those in our community who have nothing to gain.
