Two nights ago M was struggling to go toilet for an hour and a half. She said the poo was right down below but wouldn't come out. Even though she was in so much pain it still took me half an hour to convince her to give her an enema. She finally went but said it was so painful. After that she's had pain when sitting, hurts and stings when going toilet. She won't let me have a look. Does this sound like a fissure?

Your poor daughter! I'm not sure if these symptoms necessarily mean she has a fissure. Maybe hemorrhoids? My son has a fissure due to chronic constipation and his issues do sound similar though. Does your daughter see any blood when she wipes? Before my son's fissure was healed he would see blood when he wiped. There's no longer any blood, but it still causes him pain when he has a bowel movement. And he has stinging that remains for several hours after. It also seems to cause pain right before he goes to the washroom. I suppose it might be internal pressure on the area. I could never actually see the fissure, but he does have a skin tag as a result. Initially our goal was to get the fissure healed by keeping his stools soft. Now we just make sure to keep the area very clean, and use copious amounts of zinc oxide cream.

She said there's a bit of blood when she wipes but it wasn't there before this episode. When l asked to have a look she said most of the pain felt like it was inside.

How long do fissures take to heal?

Yep, that's where my son says his pain is coming from. As long as we kept the stools soft there was no bleeding and the pain decreased steadily over a week or two. He still has some pain, but it's much better than when it was bleeding. I hope she recovers quickly from this!

I had one (child birth related) and it feels exactly like a cut. For me the pain was more intense than hemorrhoid pain. I think it took a couple of months to heal.

Have you call and asked her GI what his protocol is for fissures?
I know every GI is soooo different but they may to give some help on how to heal it.

I hope it gets better soon.

How are you? Have you heard anything yet? IBD yes/no?

Sitz baths can help with healing fissures. And, perhaps, epsom salt?? but check re the empsom salt I'm not completely sure about that.

I left a message for the nurse to call me.

I'm ok apart from this pain near my bellybutton and hip. Scopes are on Friday.
