Need some advice for my daughter. Anyone have any experience with healing fissures?
She got some cream from the doctor but every time she goes they reopen.
How can we get them to heal?

I had anal fissures due to constipation and the combination of using nitroglycerin ointment, dealing with the constipation and sitz baths after every BM did get them to heal.

Good luck! Hope you get some relief soon!

I have fissures due to D and am finding it very hard to get them to heal. The only thing that works is to not have D, haha. So I use psillium to bulk up the stool and reduce frequency and I also use nitroglycerin ointment when needed.

Good luck! And if you happen to find something that works, please let us know.

Layla,
Today we tried Aveeno Diaper cream. It is the first thing that has seemed to give her some relief. We will keep using it and I will let you know how it goes.

We also use Aveeno diaper cream and sitz baths but it's really hard to get them to heal. The sitz baths really help the pain but only temporarily.

Hope she feels better soon :ghug:

They really are - I wish I had better advice for you.

Paging MLP (Mr chicken) - she uses something else that is prescription strength for her son.

Aloe Vera worked for my Daughter. I used the real plant ( with GI approval). After starting remicade they never came back. We tried steroid cream, diaper rash cream, Aveeno and a bunch of staff that did not worked but I have read that some prescription creams work for some.

Topically. I Take the skin out, apply the slimy stuff in the skin. I left it overnight. I suggest the first time you apply, check it in a couple of minutes for allergic reaction, if not leave it as long as a couple of hours. Good luck.

they really are a horrible thing these fissures. Mine took 9 months to get rid of. Such a nasty thing to have, when you have to go to the toilet all the time and every time it hurts…a lot! if you were only going to the loo once a day, that would be bad enough!

The best advice i can give is, like the others, try to firm up the stool. psyillium, as suggested is great….more fibre…….anything you can eat, with fibre that doesnt cause problems.

Two other things helped me.
One was going to a proctologist and showing him the fissure…i am sure the fissure saw the proctologist and his tools, knives etc and it healed itself!!! (seriouslY) a few days after seeing the proctologist, the fissure healed up!
Two - rectogesic wipes. they have that nitroglycerin stuff in the wipes, like baby wipes….but i found them the best thing ever. If i put the cream on, i would get a headache within minutes, but the wipes didnt do that, and they kept the fissure ultra clean.

I hope that helps - it really is so awful and sending you my best wishes for healthy poos and a bum that doesnt hurt every time it is used.

Normal and non-frequent bowl movement.

Food journal and heavy watch of diet is crucial for this.

Combine this with sitz baths and you should see a significant improvement.
