Hello... My brother has Chron, and recently he had his perianal abscess drained. His abscess is healing, but his GI told him that it could very likely be fistula, and scheduled him for a MR and also put him on some sort of an antibiotic. She told him that if it shows it is fistula, she we will put him on a biological medication. However he is terrified of biological medication and it's side effects. Did anyone of you try some alternative medication before using biologic ones. Did it do you any good?

Cipro was a miracle drug for me at first. The GI recommended taking Cipro and Azathioprine long term. After a couple of years the drugs went against me and I was forced off. I had torn rotory cuffs, and constant pulled muscles while on Cipro and at first I didn't make the connection that it was the fault of Cipro. To make it short, I had to go off because the drug almost killed me due to toxicity overloading my liver causing Jaundice. Today I cannot take Cipro as I developed an allergy to it.
I went all natural for 10 years, but I am having more trouble controlling the bleeding from two rectal fistulas. I tried Remicade, it worked for the first couple of infusions, but side effects forced me off. Going to go the all natural route; Stress control, diet, and pain control work best for me. If they get worse, I'll likely go the surgical route, the chemicals have always let me down at some point.

Cipro has been a nightmare for me. 2 doses and I ended up with ruptured achilles tendons and torn ligaments. I've been in a boot cast for 3 weeks and will be in it for at least 3 more. This may require surgery.

Like some people already said: biologicals aren't that bad 
They have very little side-effects, and especially with Remicade: IF he gets serious side effects, the nurses and doctors are always close because he'll get it in the hospital. They'll usually just get him off the meds immediately and give some corticosteroids. So I think biologicals are quite safe actually
It's less invasive than serious surgery, and antibiotics usually don't work with fistulae/abscesses.

I would much rather have it than a steroid.
Remicade uses human and mouse proteins to create a chimeric monoclonal antibody. Enbrel and Entyvio are derived by introducing human DNA into Chinese hamster ovary cells, creating a genetically engineered protein.
