My infant son (non IBD) recently had an I&D for a perianal abscess that later came back as MRSA on culture. He got the drain removed and it seemsd fine. But now I'm noticing that there's redness by the anus that goes to one of the incision spots/where the pustule was of the abscess...along with some hardness in that area. I don't know if this is normal for the healing process or if he's possibly developing a fistula? Did I mention they also tested him for C Diff due to recent symptoms and having recently been I the strong antibiotics for the abscess...still waiting on those results though
Thanks. They warned me he had a 50% chance of developing a fistula from the abscess but they didn't tell me what to look for. I've been dx myself with IBD for 13 years (with symptoms my whole life) and I've been lucky never to have a fistula or abscess related to it so I really have no idea what it would appear as. When I first noticed the abscess my initial reaction was concern he may have IBD and I discussed these concerns but they said it had nothing to do with it and it would be "very early for him to have IBD." He has a lot of symptoms though so the doctor is currently testing him for C diff and I guess depending what that shows will depend what our next step is. He's only 13 months though
I so hope your little guys issues aren’t IBD related but please don’t let the doctors have you fall into the trap of thinking that he is too young to have IBD because unfortunately he isn’t.
Sending you loads of luck and well wishes that his problems are easily explained and solved. :ghug:
