I had a surgery 6 weeks ago they resected my Illeum and cecum and another place near the sigmoid, doctor got 100% of the Crohns out, he said 8 inches mainly small intestine. I had complications a week after the surgery I had a leak at the resection site and had to go back to the hospital for 2 weeks. :(

Thought I was in the clear and my wound opened up and looks like I have a fistula from the wound. Has anybody had this happen to them?? My bro is a doctor, he said they just sew up the fistula? I just wondered, is it Outpatient and all.

Thanks :study:

Kellix, that sounds awful! I dont know about them sewing up the fistula, I'm sorry!

But I am certainly sending you hugs and healing thoughts! You've been thru enough. Can they do something besides sew it up? I mean, you dont mention what meds you're on, but it sounds like they need to give you something to keep you in remission a bit more. Dont ask me what though!

Thanks

Terriernut, I appreciate it, so far the fistual is still there. :( Going to see my surgeon tommorrow to see what they want to do, either wait some more or, operate. I went in and talked ot them and they said, yep thats how they would have to close it. I'm just praying it closes on its own. :sign0085:

All this, really the last 6 months, or year is blowing me away because, 20 years ago they thought, I might have Crohns then they thought it was from the n-saids, I quit taking them and it went away. Well in fact they were right I did have Crohns for 20 years and never knew about it. Alot to take in and trying to make lifestyle changes, I just wished they had said it was it 20 years ago. :(

When I had my resection my surgeon was worried about that happening, especially since my nutritional status was low at the time. In order to avoid that, he created an ileostomy which I had for 3 months in order to let the intestines heal. After that I was reconnected. I have had fistulas/abscesses since but I dont think at the reconnection site.
