Hi Folks,

I had an operation to drain a perianal abscess on 17 Sept this year, during the op they found a fistula and put in a seton stitch. For 2 weeks after the op I felt like crap, was in terrible pain and was suffering from a UC flare up as well. Not good.

I started a 6 week course of prednisolone on 28 Sept and felt so much better almost instantly. I'm now down to 5mg of pred (also on 125mg azathioprine since 15 Aug) and still doing pretty good.

In the last 2 weeks though I've noticed a bit of yellow mucus on the toilet paper when I wipe around the abscess site. I've had a look as best I can and the site looks pretty clean, I'm pretty sure it's not infected because I feel fine and don't have a temperature. So what's this mucus, is it just the fistula draining?

The stitch hasn't been too bad up until now, I think it's moved a bit and now is causing me quite a lot of chaffing on the opposite buttock - it's really red and sore. Anyone got any advice on soothing this? I'm still wearing sanitary pads all the time as the fistula continuously weeps - is there anything better I can use?

Thanks in advance

Hi Claire, I found that the best thing for soothing the irritation is a sitz bath. Some people use barrier cream, I found that it burns like hell. Different strokes for different folks.
