When I first started to take Humira it seemed to help my fistula and inflamed area. This was two months ago. Now, it doesn't seem to work as well. Anyone else have the same experience? Should I try and move on to a new drug?

Thank you

Hi there. Sorry to hear that the fistula is persisting :-( It might be worth discussing Remicaid with your GI. Quite a few people here with fistulas and/or abscesses have had success with it. I've not been on Humira though so am not sure how long it takes to become fully therapeutic.

When you say it doesn't seem to work as well, what are you experiencing?

Your doctor may be able to adjust your dosage and/or interval, add an additional medication or as Grumbletum mentioned, try another medication such as Remicade.

I have been on Humira since Dec. It really seems to help, I didn't realize how much until it started wearing off early. Now 5 days before my shot I get horrid fatigue and the D ramps up, 48 hours after the shot I feel great. I hope to get moved to weekly shots when I see the GI wednesday. Does it seem like that for you or does it seem not to do anything even after the shot?

I've been on humira for a few years. It's the same for me at first it was great but now even the day after I take the shot it doesn't do anything. Ho often do you have it? And what other medicine have u tried maybe remicade but I had that before humira and that also wore out.

Thank you everyone. When I first took the four shots of Humira, the Fistula seemed to shrink up, less inflammation. They even took my seton out. Now just a few months later...it's like I am not taking anything-even though they just put me on Humira weekly. The fistula is draining and filling up with blood again. Thank God so far...no abscess. However, this all started with an a very painful abscess back in August.

Thank you again.

I had a choice, to take Remicaid or Humira to start and I chose Humira, just because I could take it at home. I have heard people go from Remicaid to Humira, but not the other way around. I could ask the GI doctor next time I see him. However, I wonder if he is going to make me wait and see if weekly Humira is going to work vs. every other week Humira. So far every week Humira is not working either.

Thank you everyone again.

When I went from Humira every two weeks to every ten days the fistula closed in two days. I would try upping the dosage.

Good Luck

They changed Humira from two times a month to once a week...so far...still the same.

I will give it another month, and see what happens....if no change I will ask for a change to Remicade.

Thank you
