flare in rectal stump!

Hi all.
As some of you might know i recently underwent surgery to remove my colon and give me an ilieostomy.
They left a part of my rectum behind so i could have pouch surgery in the future.
The problem I now have is that i am flaring in the part they left behind. It didn't start until 10 days post op and it was only 1-2 times so wasn't concerned. However yesterday and today have been quite frequent. I have contacted my IBD nurse and she said to try some pentasa suppositories I had in my meds stash at home.
I am hoping this will calm it down. Don't really want to make the decision yet as to whether or not i have the pouch surgery or not.
Will let you all know how it goes.

Hello Shazz,
That must be a bit disconcerting for you to say the least.
Lets hope the suppositories clear it all up and hope its a blip on the horizon.
Think positive, think pink and healthy.
Hope everything turns out well for you.
Hugs and best wishes

Thanks hun. My UC was at its worse when I had my op so its no big surprise really but could do without it!

Hi Shazz,m
I hear where you are coming from and my sympathy goes out to you.
My recent colonoscopy showed crohns activity so its back to the steroid stuff, you know the drill., plus there were two polyps, one in the right side,no news on those yet.
IBD is hard to endure, but we must----never give up and never give in.
Feel better soon love.
Hugs and best wishes

Give your condition at the time of your surgery, I bet it was not too surprising. You need a break! Hope the Pentasa works!

Thanks guys.
To top it all off was just changing my bag and my disolvable stitches have started to come out. When i was wiping around 2 came off onto the cloth!
My goodness I feel like i am falling apart.
My stoma nurse is coming tomorrow so will quiz her on everything.

Oh sweetheart! :( It seemed you were doing so well and then you keep getting these issues. Hopefully this is just some teething problems that will settle down. Let us know how things go tomorrow.

xxxxxx

Things have settled down today. Only been once so far.
My stoma nurse has been and she is not worried about my stitches coming out. She says it does happen a lot. She is coming back to see me next week to check how things are progressing.
Have got a number to call for the stoma team if I need to in the mean time.
Struggling with eating though. Got no appetite what so ever. Still making myself eat though. I seem to get full after 1-2 mouthfulls. She said it will come in time but keep trying.

Try not to worry about the appetite, Shazz. I had none what so ever for 3 weeks after my op and it's extremely rare usually that I don't want to eat! I ended up losing 3lbs a week from it. But it suddenly came back and now it needs to die down a little lol.

Sorry about your flares! I got my bum sewn up so lucky I don't have to worry about that anymore. Hope you feel better soon!!!

Thanks Michelle.
I am not too worried about it but its just really annoying me!
Everyone keeps asking me when i am going to have the reversal done and that is more annoying! I have not decided yet if i want it done or not. I am only 2 weeks post op for crying out loud!
One day at a time!

Yeah I bet. Is there anything you really fancy eating? I really kept craving deep fried shredded beef.. Nothing else. In the end my mum very kindly went to the Chinese for me. It was so worth it. I ate the whole lot up. Saying that, was a little too soon to be eating something like that after my op. I woke up at 3am with my stomach and stoma going crazy!

And blimey! Yes! You've not even recovered from this op yet!

Not really fancying anything specific at the moment.
Saying that i do fancy some duck with hoi sin sauce but dare not go anywhere near that at the moment!
Am going to sit in sainsburys coffee shop tomorrow while the hubby and kids do the shopping so might smell something I fancy then!

They have not said yet. Am due to have a follow up appointment in 6 weeks time. Will ask for sure. Hope its not! But if it is then i will deal with it.

Shazz, I just want to say, you may not be flaring that much in your rectal stump. I Poo'd very frequently right after my surgery. And bled, and hurt. I have my whole stump left too. For the first 3 months, I had issues. The pentasa suppositories helped alot. But if they dont, theres a pred foam you can use (I call it a butt facial..fabulous daaarling..and sooo moisturizing, so lush!)

As for your stiches popping...they will. Sometimes they disolve, sometimes they pop. Sometimes several stay in there and have to be removed. (OUCH!)

I'm glad you are having it looked at though! Better safe than sorry. I want you to get well!!!!!!!!!
