Hi Jack is flaring after having right hemicolectomy in oct 13. Had scopes yesterday which showed 20cm of disease from join of colon to small bowel ulcers in stomach and esophagus next step is to go onto imfliximab ( remicade) he is currently on tacrlimus prednisolone 40 mg colestyramine sachets and omeprazole. My question how long is the infusions are they tired afterwards what are common side effects . Thanks x

Sorry to hear that he's flaring.
M was tired the day after her infusions. No other side effects for her. Some kids don't get tired after infusions at all, it's really very individual. Some kids also respond right away, others (like my daughter) take 3-4 infusions or even more.

Good luck! Hope it works like magic!

Thanks Maya142 he has come through so much with his crohns in the 3 years since diagnosis so hoping this puts him in remission and keeps him there x

When D was on Remicade I always scheduled her for 1st thing in the morning so she could go home and sleep and go to school the next day. Some times that worked, other times she needed an extra day of rest. Remicade is one of the faster acting biologics. Hope Jack gets relief soon & can get off prednisone quick.

We usually schedule infusions for Friday afternoons. They last 3-4 hours and it really varies on whether he is tired after. Some days he's bouncing off the walls with energy and others he sleeps in the car on the way home. He gets Tylenol and Benedryl as pre-meds and I'm more inclined to think its the Benedryl that makes him tired. The next day he's always fine.

DS hasnt had any side effects in the 17 months that he's been doing infusions.

I hope Infliximab brings some relief!!

Sorry to hear he is flaring after surgery.my daughter was always tired the rest of the day after the infusion but felt better the next day.

My daughter is never tired after Remicade infusions. She leaves the center, does a full day of school, track practice after school and after that two hours of swim practice. I took about 6 months with her to be effective but like Maya said, it is highly individual and I think she was at the longer end compared to the others here.

The only side effect she got was Remicade induced psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

It has worked wonders for her.

Good luck!
