I've been in remission for a few years and almost forget I have crohns alot of the time. However, this past year there has been alot of change in my life. I've gotten married, moved, and changed jobs.
I have been on azothioprine for around 7 years and I believe it has played a huge role in keeping me well.
A few weeks ago I had to come off of it. I developed shingles due to it lowering my immune system. The shingles have passed, but I'm currently awaiting my specialsost appointment and on no drugs.
I have lost around 5lbs and have diarrhea 3 or more times a day. I'm tired and my stomach feels like a painful washing machine after I eat. This is awful! I don't want it to get really bad! How do I help myself go into remission while awaiting the doc visit?

Hi there, I am sorry you are flaring and I know what it is like to wait for a doctor appt. The system isnt perfect but the waiting times really are hard. You have had most of the biggest stressors all in a row, and that my friend will cause havoc, been there done that. You will really have to watch your diet, stick to bland foods. How long for your appt? For Diaheah imodium helps but only til you get your doctor to get you Questran for that. I use Gingerforce by New chapter that helps to take it around 3pm before the pain starts. It has helped me alot. Only in the health food stores. Avoid dairy. I find when I am flaring only oatmeal helps, it soothes. Hang in there, if you get really bad go to emergency, someone has to help. :hang:

I agree with sticking to a more bland diet for the time being (although oatmeal tears my insides apart, find what works for you). If I were in a mild flare I would contact my GI, tell him my symptoms and they may do another blood panel but I doubt he would need to see me in person unless tinkering with my meds doesn't help. Most of my GI upkeep is done over the phone rather than in person. Is there anyway you can speak with the specialist before the appointment (or get a message to them with your symptoms and they can get back to you sooner)?
